2006 - Pure Satisfaction Results - Year 4

Thanks everybody for coming out and making this 4th running of the Pure Satisfaction a great success.  21 runners toed the start line ready to brave the elements. In the end the rain and wind fore casted didn't materialize, the snow had almost completely disappeared and the blow downs were manageable.

Thank you to Berglind for weathering the cold and handing out Craig's Zone Bar's at the turnaround.

Thanks to North Shore Athletics, TrailRunner, Kinesys and Body World 3 everybody who showed up at the Lazy Cafe got away with a draw prize.

Save The Fat Ass!

lifebuoy As we approach the end of 2006 and the start of a new year, the Steering Committee and I have been doing a lot of behind the scenes planning regarding Club Fat Ass.  Straight up, the success of the Club may also kill it!

Your Club has accomplished a lot during 2006.  We have grown to 300 members.  Members benefited from 33 free Club events in 2006 including our new speaker series and flash events.  Our online "clubhouse" finally works across most common browsers and members are using it to share their adventures, photos and advice.  The Club newsletter is received by over 1,000 subscribers and this is growing rapidly as friends tell friends.

The challenge is that the Club doesn't have the resources to support this kind of growth.  Membership dues bring in approximately $10,000 but this does not even come close to covering the actual costs of overhead (the t-shirts, the world class web site, Club marketing and promotion, accounting and legal fees, etc.).

Seymour Super Fun Run - 2006 - Year 5

Well we were blessed with a break in the weather with temperatures around the freezing mark and partly cloudy skies.

Mike and Melissa's Fun Run 2006 - Nevee in SnowThe snow on the ground was to vary from a few inches at the start to 6-12 inches in the higher elevations depending on whether you were 'on' or 'off trail'.  Here's a picture of Nevee the wonder dog strutting her stuff in the new snow that fell days before.

We had 17 Fat Asses toe the line with a number of members doing 'custom routes' either by choice or by circumstance.  We had one individual end up running down Mt. Seymour and get picked up by a Knee Knacker committee member and got a ride to our house!

One of the things that we love about these runs is that they are not competative and always bring everyone closer together.  Well maybe the fornt runners were competetive but the rest of us had a great time.  The conditions warranted some 'alternative foot gear' to accomodate the snowy conditions. Check out photos here!

Off to the Aid Station a short climb later.  We were greeted by Berglind (who was injured but wanted to help anyway) and her good friend Deborah.  These little angles supplied us with hot chocolate, water, York peppermint patties, Santa Jube-jubes, Christmas coloured M & M's and chips.  What a menu!

The post run is always the highlight of the Melissa and Mike's Fun Run!  Melissa ran a short distance with us so she could be home to prepare the fertada and other goodies that were to be consumed by our running friends.  this year's run added about 40 minutes on average to the finishing times.  Tim wore a GPS and officially pegged the distance at 30km!  Well so much for a 26km trail run!  30 sounds so much better anyway.

Thanks to all the runners who came, and the volunteers that perservered the cold.  We also like to thank North Shore Athletics, Kinesys and TrailRunner for the prizes and Sibylle for obtaining the Body Worlds passes.

Until next year thanks a lot and see you out on the trails...
Melissa and Michael - M & M Fun Run 2006

Thanks to Tim Wiens who measured the course with his GPS.  He writes:

"Hi Mike & Sibylle.  I have attached a map and elevation chart of today’s run in case you are interested.  The GPS distance was 29km.  From the map it looked like the GPS lost lock for about 15 minutes, a half hour from the finish.  So It’s possible that the distance was around 30km.

Carpool to Galbraith Mountain

Anybody going out to Bellingham  for the Galbraith Mountain Tour next weekend want to carpool? I can drive if need be.

Challenge in the Pure Satisfaction

M & M Fun Run is still on! - Sat Dec 2 - 8am start

Hello our trail running friends!

The run is still on for tomorrow!  There is snow on the ground and there will be snow and blow-down through the trail, although we don't know how much.  Treat this as an ADVENTURE run!  Come prepared to be slow and have fun, if you don't want to go the whole distance that's totally cool.

Snowshoe Season Opener - Beat this!

Up until a few days ago, it was mild and rainy in Vancouver.  Time to clean up the garden, rake the leaves and maybe kick some leaves while out on a run on the trails between rain showers.

Then it started to snow.  And it snowed.  And it's still snowing.

Mike and Melissa's Fun Run

Hi guys and gals,

Please come out and join us on Saturday, 2 Dec, before the Christmas season kicks into full gear!  Sorry for the date change but circumstances were such that we could not pull off the event and instead of canceling we opted to postpone it.  There is snow on them thar hills and unless it rains or warms up by next weekend there should still be a light dusting that makes the trail absoutely spectacular!

More details and registration here.

See you next Saturday.

Cheers, Mike and Melissa.
