Club Fat Ass is about grassroots endurance sport events and a healthy outdoor lifestyle. We help community-minded members host free events... and help all members and athletes, wherever they live, find and participate in cheap and cheerful endurance sports events.

Membership Types

Annual Individual Membership in Club Fat Ass is $75. For this, you get:

  • free access to all Club Fat Ass events around the world for the entire calendar year. (Space permitting. First come, first served - so register early!)
  • a distinctive Club Fat Ass t-shirt. This high quality, technical t-shirt will  identify you as a member of this venerable organization to other members, other athletes and prompt quizzical looks and comments from the general public (Shipping extra). Shirt sizes are limited. Make sure to sign-up early for best selection. Club Fat Ass Wear collector shirts are designed by local designer and friend of Club Fat Ass, Vanessa Fors. They are made in Vancouver using environmentally friendly, no-stink Chitosante fabric. They are available as quantities last.
  • don't want the shirt?  Save $25.

Single-Day Individual Membership in Club Fat Ass is $25.  For this, you get

  • free access to a particular Club Fat Ass event
  • no cool Club Fat Ass t-shirt included, but you can buy one for $25 anytime
  • join online at least 2 days before an event?  Save $5.

Annual Business Advertising Membership in Club Fat Ass is $250.  For this, you get:

  • a web page and rotating banner ad that are prominently displayed in the Club's "online clubhouse"
  • two (2) individual memberships for your employees or clients

Annual Business Sponsor Membership in Club Fat Ass is $1,000.  For this, you get:

  • all benefits of an Advertising Member plus...
  • recognition on all event pages, in media releases, in the monthly Club newsletter and on widely distributed print brochures.
  • two (2) individual memberships for your employees or clients

Single-Day Trial Membership in Club Fat Ass is free and offered to Fat Ass virgins. For this you get:

Shirts will be mailed out to the address you provide after payment is processed. Please note, free Event Host and Single Day Memberships do not include a shirt, but if you like to order one, please chose the Event Host option when completing the payment page.
If you are an Event Host of a scheduled event last year, your membership this year is complimentary.  Please  continue to fill out this form and select the EH payment option (to cover your shirt) after submitting this form

Waiver and Release of All Claims (the "Agreement")

  • THIS AGREEMENT WILL AFFECT YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS. READ IT CAREFULLY!

  • BY THIS AGREEMENT YOU ARE AGREEING NOT TO SUE ANY PERSON FOR ANY INJURY, HARM, OR DAMAGE ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR PARTICIPATION IN CLUB FAT ASS OR IN ANY CLUB FAT ASS EVENT.

 

  • I am solely      responsible for      my own safety and well-being in my participation in Club  Fat Ass (CFA) and CFA races, activities, and other events (CFA  Events)

  • CFA Events are physically challenging and hazardous activities even for well-conditioned and prepared athletes under favorable conditions.
  • I understand that I should not participate in CFA or CFA Events unless: (1) I am in excellent physical condition; (2) I have  trained adequately; and (3) I have no medical condition that could be worsened by vigorous activity.

  • I am aware that my participation in CFA and CFA Events may involve risks to my   health and safety, including permanent injury or death, and I freely accept and fully assume any and all risks, dangers, and hazards, and the possibility of personal injury, death, property damage and loss resulting from all risks, dangers, and hazards.

  • neither CFA nor the organizer of an individual CFA Event (Event Host) is      responsible for assessing my ability to participate in any CFA Event.  I have made all medical and other inquiries as are reasonably necessary to declare that I am healthy and fit enough to participate in CFA and in CFA Events.

  • neither CFA nor CFA Event Hosts provides participant accident, disability, or other insurance, and that I am solely responsible for providing such coverage as is necessary, prudent, or desirable.

  1. TO WAIVE ANY AND ALL RIGHTS, CLAIMS, AND CAUSES OF ACTION that I have or may in the future have, whether presently known or unknown, against the CFA, and Event Hosts, together with the officers, directors, employees, representatives, agents, sponsors, and volunteers of each, and any other person involved in CFA and CFA Events, and any government or private landowner or occupier in or on whose property a given CFA Event takes place together(the "Releasees"), and TO RELEASE THE RELEASEES from any and all liability for any loss, damage, expense, or injury, including death, that I may suffer, or that my next of kin may suffer, arising out of or in connection with my participation in a CFA event or in CFA, due to any cause whatsoever, including negligence, breach of contract, or breach of any statutory or other duty of care, including any duty of care owed under occupier liability legislation, on the part of the Releasees, and including the failure on the part of the Releasees to safeguard or protect me from any risks, dangers, and hazards arising from my participation in CFA and CFA Events, and agree and COVENANT NOT TO SUE FOR DAMAGES the Releasees with respect thereto;  

  2. TO HOLD HARMLESS, DEFEND, AND INDEMNIFY THE RELEASEES from any and all liability for any damage to the property of, or personal injury to, any third party arising out of or in connection with my participation in CFA or a CFA Event, or in connection to any claim commenced, maintained, continued, or assigned by me against any person which results in a claim by that person or any other person being brought against the Releasees. For greater certainty, this indemnity will include full indemnification of legal fees;  

  3. To grant permission to CFA and Event Hosts for full use, without restriction of any kind, of my name, mailing address, and any photographs, videotapes, recordings of me, or any record of my participation in CFA or a CFA Event, including use of my image on a website or other form of publicity or other publication, and understand that no monetary compensation will be given for the use of the materials;  

  4. This Agreement shall be effective and binding upon my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators, assigns, and representatives, in the event of my death or incapacity;  

  5. This Agreement and any rights, duties, and obligations as between the parties to this Agreement shall be governed by and interpreted solely in accordance with the laws of the Province of British Columbia and no other jurisdiction, and any litigation related to my participation in CFA or a CFA Event or related to this Agreement shall be brought solely within the Province of British Columbia and shall be within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of the Province of British Columbia.

In entering into this Agreement I am not relying upon any oral or written representations or statements made by the Releasees with respect to the safety of CFA or any CFA Event.  

I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS AGREEMENT AND I AM AWARE THAT BY ENTERING INTO THIS AGREEMENT I AM WAIVING CERTAIN LEGAL RIGHTS WHICH I OR MY HEIRS, NEXT OF KIN, EXECUTORS, ADMINISTRATORS, ASSIGNS, AND REPRESENTATIVES MAY HAVE AGAINST THE RELEASEES.

Like many elite organizations, Club Fat Ass has a unique culture and code of conduct. In lieu of an elaborate hazing ceremony, please acknowledge the following in order to complete your membership application:
  • No Fee. I understand that there is no such thing as a free lunch. I agree to not whine about how a free CFA Event is organized and promise to enjoy it for what it is rather than grumble about what it is not. I don’t expect a finisher medal, souvenir t-shirt, draw prizes, a loot bag or any other stuff to take home after I finish a CFA Event other than my dirty laundry and, possibly, some bragging rights.
  • No Aid. I am an experienced endurance athlete so I know how to dress for the weather and to pack what I need to eat and drink. I agree to not whine if I suffer as a result of my screwing up and not being adequately prepared for a CFA Event.
  • No Wimps. I understand that a CFA Event may be physically and mentally demanding. I agree to suck it up and not whine regardless of how tough a CFA Event might be.
  • No Course Marking. I understand that a CFA Event is not marked, that is, there is no surveyor tape, no police escort or traffic management at intersections, no fluorescent pylons or glow sticks… nothing but printed instructions to guide me. I agree to not whine if I get lost because I didn’t read the directions. I also agree to be responsible for the cost of any search and/or rescue if I become lost or suffer a medical problem during a CFA Event.
  • Be Nice to Mother Nature. I understand that a CFA Event is intended to leave no impact on the environment in which it is held. I agree to not litter. I agree that if I can’t find a washroom, I will bury my waste far from the trail. I furthermore agree to consider picking up any litter I might come across during a CFA Event.
  • Be Nice to Your Host. I understand that it is a hassle to host a CFA Event. I understand that CFA Event Hosts are fellow members of Club Fat Ass who probably spent some of their own money and who certainly spend a lot of their time organizing their events out of the goodness of their hearts and the hope that I will have fun participating. I agree to be a good guest at a CFA Event. In particular, that means I will not bring legal action in regard to a CFA Event.
  • Contribute to the Community. I agree to provide constructive feedback to the Event Host after each CFA Event I participate in. I will think about volunteering some of my time to help an Event Host put on an even better event. I agree to think about hosting my own CFA Event.
  • Play by the Rules. I understand that the laws of the land and the rules of the road apply while I participate in a CFA Event. I agree to abide by the rules for any CFA Event in which I participate.
  • Tell your Friends. I understand that Club Fat Ass aims to make the world a better place for endurance sport athletes and needs to get the word out. I agree to let Club Fat Ass or a CFA Event Host use any photo or video taken of me during a CFA Event for promotional purposes. If I find value and enjoyment in belonging to Club Fat Ass, I agree to spread the word to my friends.
  • Release of all Claims. I understand that by participating in any Club Fat Ass events I agree with the Release of all Claims.
