Drive to KneeKnacker Start from North Van?

I am sad to say that my friend and neighbor, Ann Taylor, is withdrawing from the Knee Knacker.

For the past several years, her hubbie Bob has got up at an ungodly hour of the morning to drive a van-full of runners to the race start.  Since Ann is injured, both can sleep in this Saturday... but I'm now begging for a ride.

Cool beer at Cleveland Dam for a ride to the start!  604-904-6554

Jackson's 11 Hints and Tips for a First Ultra

I was out for a run on the Baden Powell Trail with a pal the other day.  This friend was a bit nervous about competing in his first Knee Knacker 50K.  We got chatting about hints and tips.  In case you are also looking at doing your first ultra, I thought I'd share some of those thoughts here.  If you've done a few long running races, please share your thoughts on my hints and add a few of your own:

Electrolyte Supplements

I'm going to give Where's Waldo 100k a go in late August.  I'm expecting it to be pretty warm in central Oregon.  I've not used any electrolyte supplements previously but I think I should consider them this time out.  Can anyone suggest what has worked for them in the heat?

Does anyone need to do a repeat of Sunday's Kneeknacker Training Run up Black Mountain tomorrow/Canada Day?

Hello everyone,

Anyone interested in a nice repeat of last Sunday's Kneeknacker Run from Nelson Park up Black Mountain and down to Cleveland Dam or Lynn Valley  tomorrow/Canada Day?  Regretfully, I managed to miss last Sunday's run and would like to climb Black Mountain before KK and/or add a different long run to simulate starting early in the am, if possible.

Pls do let me know if you are interested - laddie.hannam@shaw.ca or 604.603.7672 mobile

Thanks!

Laddie

I am planning to meet up with the House to Grouse runners on Canada Day - but given my pace, I am not kidding myself to be able to keep up.  I also don't want to include the Grind...which got me thinking of a very custom version of William's run.  Well, maybe it's a totally different run (but we still might meet the House to Grouse folks).

House To Grouse

East Vancouver - Vancouver - North Vancouver

Run from William Jans' house in East Vancouver/Mount Pleasant to top of Grouse Mountain. 5th year running.  Hang about Ambleside park afterwards for a bit for Canada day stuffs and to eat yogurt. Bring a bit of cash for tram, food and possible bus home (unless we catch lifts).
