Race-day volunteers… We love you!

STORMY 100 Mile Ultramarthon,  50 Mile Ultramarathon & Team Relay

100 Miler - Saturday, August 7, 10AM start

50 Miler & Team Relay - Sunday, August 8, 6AM start

STORMY needs lots of enthusiastic volunteers to ensure a successful race day experience.

We could use help from people on Friday and Sunday.

First Bagger braggers?

According to what I see on the current standings list, nobody has yet done Paton Peak. Given that this is the first year it is an official Bagger Peak I shall lay claim, along with my trail companion, Liza, to being the first official Baggers on record as of July 18, 2010. Of course, the one to get really get some recognition here is Monty Watts for pointing out the fact that Paton exists and is a notable viewpoint at least.

Help at Fat Dog

Well I blew getting accomodations at Keremeos so thought I would drive my truck with camper to race start.   Problem is getting my truck to Manning park as I have no crew or pacers. Anyone know if somebody could drive my truck from the start back to Manning?? Thanks.

Bill's Great Peak Ascent -- This Sunday!

Hello everyone!   Just 1 week until the 7th annual "Bill's Great Peak Ascent".

Please make note of the fact that it's Sunday this year and not Saturday as usual.  This is to account for the fact that I'll be crewing for Jess while she completes the Fat Dog 100 km on Friday/Saturday (plus I have a wedding I have to go to on Saturday).

As usual, I'll have lots of swag for the post-race event at the Mosquito Creek Grill along with the usual 1 free beer.

Death Valley Jack - 75 year-old man competes in ultra marathon

This in from Simon Quinton - Edelman Digital (representing Seven Seas):

Death Valley Legend

75 year-old UK resident Jack Denness is attempting to make history as the oldest runner ever to compete in the Badwater Death Valley Ultra Marathon from July 12th 2010. Seven Seas, celebrating its 75th birthday, is supporting Jack's efforts to break the world record in what is deemed as the world’s toughest athletic event.

The race covers 135 miles through the Nevada desert from Death Valley, the lowest elevation point in the Western Hemisphere at 280 feet below sea level, to half-way up Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous United States.

One of 90 competitors in 2010, Jack is a Death Valley legend, having already competed in the event 11 times. He will face daily temperatures of up to 55oC and expects to take up to 50 hours to complete the grueling course.

Supporting local charities

The family atmosphere of the Death Valley race is what inspires Jack to keep returning, training “only when I’m in the mood,” he says. On average, Jack and Max the dog will complete a 26 mile run each Sunday in the lead up to the race.

Hot Dog Belt?

 This is hilarious:

Fat Dog course

Spent last weekend at Ross Lake making the climb up Skyline II and part way across the top. Forgot my camera Saturday so did this again Sunday for two 6½ hr days but got some pics.   If you've never been up this trail it's gonna be interesting with 136K on the legs.  Heather calls this a challenging finish and I'd be inclined to agree.  Patience on the day of this 100miler will be key.

Michael, I'll see you out there.

Randy
