Slowly but surely

It's been 4 weeks to the day that I haven't run.  Thanks to lots of deep freezing I am glad to report that the acute inflammation in the Achilles tendon seems to be gone.  Between Ean's Patella Femoral syndrome and my heel we were literally fighting for the ice packs.  No nicer feeling than when you move your legs under the cover in bed only to come upon a half thawed bag of peas...

Practice run for Forbidden Forest?

Kettle Moraine 100  has a 38 mile night fun run this year.  They're using it as a way to get people out on the course to encourage the ultras.  What a great idea.  Hope it turns into a trend.  Here's the link

Now all I have to do is train and run it....

I'm still in shock and awe even though it has been over 12 hours after the Lottery Night at NorthShoreAthletics for Knee Knacker.

I still can't get my head wrapped around the fact that I will be participating at Knee Knacker for the first time and I get the additional benefit of cross training with Curb Ivancic as preparation for KK!

Fat-Assed Pow Day

If you're into sliding sports, now is a good time to get out on the slopes. It has been puking in the mountains for days... and it looks like there's more snow on the way! I was up at Whistler with some buddies the other day and was treated to some of the best deep, dry powder I have ever had the pleasure of wollowing in.

Encouragement

Since I can't contribute any progress or race reports - my Achilles is still on the mend and I am off running - I thought I share an email with you that I received over the weekend from a woman who wrote me late last year inquiring if Club Fat Ass offers beginner running clinics. I wrote her back, encouraging to join a clinic and offered to take her out for a run/walk. Never heard back until now. Here is what she shared:

February Progress Report - Low Mileage, Good Races

February turned out to be a great month for races, but an average month for mileage. A minor injury, a couple of taper weeks, and a recovery week kept my weekday miles at well under my goal of 50 weeday kms per week. As for the other resolutions, riding to school 3 times/ week has been much easier now that it isn't raining everyday, I am still keeping a log of all my runs and rides, and my eating habits weren't as good as they were in Jan, but are still better than they were last year.

Bonus Run - The Dirty Duo

If it isn't one injury, it's another. First, plantar fasciitis (where the meat on the bottom of your foot comes off the bone) then patella-femoral syndrome (a knee that clicks and pops and hurts whether you run on it or not.) Both are nasties that take a long time to heal...and as soon as I figured I'd licked the former, I get the latter.

Achilles Tendonitis

It's official. I acknowledge that I am off running with Achilles tendonitis. After last Saturday's test run on the Burnaby Mountain Run course, the pain and stiffness worsened. I pondered the situation a day or two and sadly made the decision to pull from the upcoming Dirty Duo race.

Sweeping Diez Vista

The sweeper's function is to "sweep the trail" by collecting flagging, garbage and sometimes the participants during a race. We're there to make sure that no one gets lost and no gets left behind, to adminster first aid and encouragement if requested, (because there's nothing worse than having the sweeper pass you because you're not moving fast enough)

New Event, Run to the Clouds... it is happening!
