Enough is enough

A few month ago I happily blogged about running in the rain...How I loved it! Forget it. Don't hold me to it - enough is enough. Out of the last 44 days it rained 42 of them - hard!

My motivation is definitely fading. Last weeks training consisted of 2 half hearted weight sessions at home, one mid-week run, 2 hours of downhill skiing with my children, 2 hours of snowshoe hiking on Grouse and one guilt induced hour at the gym.

How is the rest of rain soaked Vancouver doing? What about the snow and ice in the rest of the country? How are the New Year's Resolutions coming along? Why don't you take a moment and fill us in on your training and how you deal with the weather. What the heck, if you live somewhere warm and dry you can share that too - rub it in!

Left In The Dark

Michelle and I have taken to meet during the week for an evening training run. Great way for both of us to get our behinds out there and not find an excuse.

We are still recovering from the 50km on New Year's Day and I have been avoiding road running as much as possible to give my heels time to heal (pun intended). But where to do you run after dark if not on roads or illuminated paved bike paths?

New Year's Resolutions - One Down!

The post race euphoria has gone by now and the tired muscles are slowly recovering...in fact I ventured out for my first post Vancouver New Year's Day 50km run this morning. Time to reflect on an epic day.

After an intense taper because of a pre Christmas stomach flu, I feared I forgot how to run, lost all my training and was in general sandbagging mode. The weather forecast of torrential rains and gale force winds did not raise my mood. 50km...what was I thinking?

Sibylle's Training: 1 - 8 January

Sunday - 1 January: Vancouver New Year's Day FA 50

  • Distance = 50km
  • Time = 7:03h
  • Terrain = mix of pavement and easy trails
  • Weather = uhuh...rain, hail, gail force wind, dry spells, 12c,
  • had a great positive run. No major problems. Some hip pain and discomfort in the toe joints (that's a new one), stomach starting to be on the edge for the last 2h
Monday - 2 January:

Pure Satisfaction -blog post

Three years ago, during the first Pure Satisfaction Run, we jokingly called it "Pure Aggravation"...It poured for the entire run. We are not talking rain, we are talking West Coast monsoons. The trails were hidden under knee deep mud and it never really got light.

German Bread Recipe

I have been baking this bread for a number of years now.  The recipe is very versatile and fool proof.  I don't use a bread machine, but have been told that it's possible to make the dough in the machine.

Sibylle's Resolutions

You may have noticed Ean likes list and checks them twice...He ran (pun intended) his New Years Resolutions by me, to give them a reality check in regards to time commitment and injury prevention (or should I say injury recovery). His list is ready to go. It's huge. It's wishful thinking...but as his supporting, loving wife I believe he can do it and promise to kick him out of bed on a rainy race morning...just so he will reach his goals for 2006.
