As you might now, our online clubhouse and website at
http://www.clubfatass.com
was offline last night for some routine trail maintenance and removal
of creaky boardwalks. We are up and running again. Ran Katzmann, our
volunteer Tech Committee chair, did a great job minimizing disruptions.
I am happy to have new features at my finger tips that add value
for you, the Event Host. The long awaited Gmap module is now
integrated and allows us to insert a map with markers for various
locations that are important for your event. While this module is
available to the Event Hosts, I know that some of you are less
comfortable with technology than others. Feel free to check the module
out and if you are comfortable, add a map to your agenda page (I will
add instructions below and also in the Event Host manual online). It
is actually quite easy.
The other feature we added was a "purge" function for your
registration page. This is something that I use to wrap up your event
and set up for the following year. Event Hosts have access to this function
(it will appear beside the other tabs on top of your registration
page), but I ask you NOT to use it. It will delete all prior
registration submissions.
Here are the instructions to use the Gmap builder module:
- log in and go to http://www.clubfatass.com/map/macro (you should also see a link to this module in your navigation block in the left hand column)
- move the map so that the area of your event is more or less in the
centre. Use the zoom function to zoom in for more detail. Both these
functions can be accessed via the arrows and plus/minus sign in the
upper left corner of the map.
- In the overlay editor you can set the marker colour. I recommend
orange. You can also use numbered markers and refer to them in the
text of the page where the map will be placed.
- click on map to
place markers. Setting the "Click marker" field to "remove marker"
followed by clicking on any marker will remove the marker.
- Ignore the fields in the Line/Polygon settings
-
ignore: Map id attribute, Map type, Controls
-
to centre the map on a certain address you can in out the address in the "Address" field.
-
ignore The Latitude and Longitude of the centre of the map
-
ignore Map width, Map height, Alignment and The current magnification of the map.
-
you can use the move and zoom arrows and plus/minus signs again
until you are happy with the centering and magnification of the map
-
copy
the text in the Macro text field and paste it directly into your text
editor of the page your are working on the CFA website (no need to
switch to HTML mode)
-
click submit to save your changes in the page. Wait a
few seconds as the maps loads. You should see a Google Map embedded in
your page.
Please don't hesitate to post here should you have any questions or problems with the upgraded site/new features.
