Running the Goofy Race in Orlando Florida January 2009

Hi Ultra Marathoners,

I am planning on running the Goofy Race sponsored by Disney World in Orlando Florida in January 2009.

Registration Date Begins on January 14, 2008.

Registration usually fills up for the Goof Run fairly quickly....in about 6 weeks last year.

To Qualify for the Goofy Award (Medal) you must run the Half Marathon on a Saturday followed by the Full Marathon on the following Sunday in under 3.5 hours for the Half and 7.5 hours for the Full.  the distance total, of course will be about 63 Km or 39.3 miles.

After that, we can relive our childhood at Disney World.

Accommodations: Suggestions are welcome.  However, I was thinking of Booking a Townhouse of about 1,500 SF with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms for   a b o u t   $285 per night. for 6 nights.

I shall be happy to bring a sleeping bag and air mattress.

You could use points to fly.  Getting an RBC card collects AVION points.  If you collect 33,000 points, in October you may get a chance to "convert it" to British Airways points and get 50% more.  that should get you about 50,000 points, which is what you should require to fly to Orlando.  It might be cheaper because that is the amount required for Overseas flights.

I have 3 people who will be going, including myself.

Thoughts or replys welcome.  Crazy?  It is, unfortunately a Road Race.

Great Goal

Hi Arthur,

Nice goal for 2009.  Not crazy!  With a 50km under your belt on New Years Day, looks like you are on the right track ;-)

May I suggest you convert your email addresses in the post above into a link to your personal CFA contact form at http://www.clubfatass.com/user/681/contact  In case you or anybody else wonders, all registered users can enable their personal contact form in your account settings.  Posting email addresses openly makes them vulnerable for spam.

Goofy

Ah come on Sibylle. You have to admit that this is at least slightly crazy! That's why I'm doing it this Saturday / Sunday. It's not quite up there with Gilles back to back marathons, but a guy has got to start somewhere ;-)

Ok, You guys are all crazy ;-)

I guess it depends on what you define as normal...who wants to be normal anyway!

Good luck to you and Maureen on your runs this weekend.  Have fun being crazy.

Rumour has it that you were one of the Fat Asses involved in the nice and much appreciated trophy Ean and I got after running 50km on New Years Day.  Thank you so much.  You are very thoughtful.  It is sitting on a cabinet beside my desk where I can see it all day ;-)
