This just in from North Shore Search and Rescue and CFA member, Allan. Please, play it safe out in the mountains this weekend:

The Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) is issuing a Special Avalanche Warning for the North Shore Mountains of Vancouver and surrounding areas, including the Howe Sound Crest and extending east to the Coquihalla Summit. This warning is in place from Friday February 1 through Sunday February 3.

How much adventure do you have in you?

This is a pre-boarding announcement for anyone interested in climbing on the Vancouver 100 train to pain in June. If you feel that you want to tackle the toughest annual Club Fat Ass event then I want to hear from you now. I want to know who you are and what you're made of. Do you like the currently scheduled date of the run or you would prefer it to be a week or two earlier or later? Would that make any difference to you? Either way it's still 100km with lots of ups and downs from Coast to Coast on the North Shore Mountains.

Goofy Race in Orlando January 2009

At first I was motivated by fear, fear of an early death from heart disease, heart attack or stroke.  My doctor said, every time I went to see him...you must do more exercise.  I have finally listened to him.  I trained for the Sun Run 10 Km and ran it 3 years in succession each time achieving progressively poorer times with training that was falling off each year.  then in October 2006, I decided to to join Paul Porter and his gang to train for the next Sun Run.  I succeeded in achieving my PB of 56 minutes.  I have since brought it down to 53 because I ran a

Registration for the Vancouver New Year's Day Fat Ass 50 is now closed

Registration for the Vancouver New Year's Day Fat Ass 50 is now closed. There will be no day-of-event registration, but if you missed the boat, there is always next year. Registration for 2009 will open in a few days.

While it's too late to take part in tomorrow's event, it is not (yet) too late to register/renew your annual membership and get your 2008 collectors shirt (no-stink, long-sleeve Chitosante tech shirt). Please note, only members registered before midnight tonight will be included in the shirt order. Members registering later will receive the classic black or blue club shirts while quantities last.

Running the West Coast Trail in One Day

Attachment past the bottom of this post is my article in the February 2006  North West Runner.  It may be useful for anybody planning a run or a speed-hike on the West Coast Trail, in one day or otherwise.

Buy Nothing Day - Friday 23rd November

Hey, that's an easy one!  Buy Nothing Day.  Who wants to be stuck in a stuffy store, Christmas tunes jingling in the background, cranky people whacking their shopping carts into you, stressed cashiers trying to be friendly (or trying hard not to be snarly).  Go for a run during lunch or after work instead.
