Easter Sunday - Bowen Island

Hello Judge Crerar!

It's nice to be back at it!

Today Neil Ambrose, Wendy Montgomery and Carolyn King bagged Mount Gardner. We attempted to try the tresspassing route to go up Mt. Collins but were shunned into shame by a local who caught us! We will return to bag it another day using the recommended route.

We biked from the ocean so is it a Waterbagger?? (hope the judge is in good humour today).

Spectacular views of the snow capped mountains along the Howe Sound Crest Trail!

Cheers!

Carolyn

Double Bagged

We bagged Mount Collins and Mount Gardner today (went to both peaks on each). Not sure how to register peaks bagged officially for the Challenge, is this sufficient? I'll keep a spreadsheet of my own as well, and have both GPS and photo evidence of every peak we climb. For now, Killaine and Guy have 2 down 48 to go.

Bowen: check

Killaine:

No need to prove baggage (it's all honour system), but we urge you to post photos on the CFA Flickr Bagger Challenge site.

Congrats on the powerful start.

How was Collins? Any sign of a real trail or was it nasty bushwhacking?

Did you waterbag either of them?

Do you and Guy have last names?

Collins

Collins was bushwacking with no trails, but it was pretty open so not bad. Forest floor was slippery and GPS a must for finding the top. There are two peaks, one with the remnants of a cairn which we think is the higher one. We hiked, I don't think running it would have been enjoyable at all. Will post pics. No waterbagging. Killaine Sharman & Guy Trotter (Guy will become a  member shortly).

Jackson Claims First Baggage

OK, OK.  Hollyburn Peak may not be in the Challege and it may not be open season, but the 2010 Bagger Challenge is on and I bagged Hollyburn today, so bite me... I'm gonna claim first baggage of the season.

Yes, I am an April Fool.  The line in the snow is for you, Legg.

Photo:  C'est moi.  I am alone in a blizzard of biblical proportions.  (Very a propos, give that it is Good Friday.)  Note the safety whistle.  It is a symbol that I am a reformed dufus.  (Not shown:  my non existant water, food, shelter, lighter, GPS, cellular telephone, sleeping bag, avi shovel, or bagging buddies.  It's not that I didn't try to rally the troops for this misguided adventure... they were all chasing the Easter Bunny somewhere in the windstorm below.)

Rude, potentially offensive and possibly provocative video to follow...

Happy Easter.  Let the fun and games begin!

Who will be the first bagger? The first waterbagger?

Who is the evil genius who launched this epic on a long weekend (maniacal laughter)......

Who will be the Bagger Challenge's first April Fool?

ahhh...

Welcome to the 2010 Bagger Challenge

Last year was so much fun that we should do it again.

A few notes on this year's contest:

  • to avoid approaching cold and short daylight, and to avoid missed Thanksgiving dinners and irate spouses, we've pulled the end date back, to October 10th.
  • to compensate for Bagger withdrawal, we've:
    • pulled back the main start date by a week;
    • pulled back the start date, for the snowless Howe Sound peaks only, to April 1st.
  • we've rounded up the number to 50 peaks.
  • several of the peaks are especially chosen to be family-friendly.
  • other new peaks are less trails than bushwhacks, and untested, and may be removed/replaced if they fall short of Bagger safety or fun standards: Collins, Coburg, and Perrault.
  • introduced, thanks to Craig Moore, the idea of waterbagging: a pure climb from sea to peak. Used as a tiebreaker if necessary.
  • put in lots of fun hyperlinks to peak pictures and trip reports.
  • added a dandy section of "top peak" lists: www.clubfatass.com/baggers-list-best
  • we hope to organise a few Flash CFA events up some of these peaks (probably at least Capilano and Paton/Coliseum/Burwell in the summer): stay tuned. Any bagaholic keeners are encouraged to organise their own flash events/adventures.
  • always bring a headlamp!
  • as your charitable focus this year, do consider the wonderful work done by the wonderful people at North Shore Rescue: www.northshorerescue.com/donateonline.html

WOO-HOO! HAVE FUN! BE SAFE!

Oh dear! I fear the bagger

Oh dear! I fear the bagger fever is already spreading like wild fire.  Kiss my friends and husband goodbye until the 10th of October ;-)  But wait, I'm feeling feverish all of a sudden.  May I am infected, too?

Bagger Challenge...7 Day count down begins
