Event Report

Thank you to everyone that participated in the Vancouver World Run on Sunday March 26. And also thanks very much to everyone that was able to come out to the lecture with Jesper Olsen on Friday March 24, 2006. These are events without equal as we were fortunate to have Jesper's World Run Project recounted personally and for the first time in English. I know that we have some amazing runners in Club Fat Ass and Vancouver but arguably none have accomplished anything close to what Jesper did over 662 days, 22 months, almost 2 years and 26,232 km.

The most amazing story I heard of Jesper's entire World Run was his 6 day race at Colac, Australia. After running more than 14,000 km, the very next day he competed in an event with world-class runners. This race challenges participants to run around a 400m track for 6 days. The one that goes the farthest wins a large money prize and incredible admiration. Jesper had the energy and strength to strategize a cunning victory by completing 756.2 km in 6 days, 50km longer than the second place person. This allowed him to fund the balance of his trip across Australia and take a flight to North America. Of course, the day after the race, Jesper continued on his epic adventure and completed a pleasant 31 km run on his way to running across the Great Victoria Desert on his way to Perth. He wrote at the time in his diary, “As much as I appreciated the friendships and intense duels on the track - just as much I began to long for the open roads ahead of me.

The Danes visit...

I am really pissed off that I couldn't come over this past week-end. My wife had to go to England with her mother and I have two adolescent sons to look after for three weeks! Yikes... I am glad that my buddie Ludo (the winner of the Monty) came over and had a chance to meet you all and Jesper. If Jesper wants to come over to the Island he can stay with me and the boys. See you all at the DV.

Kind Offer

Hi Carlos, Figured you must have a good excuse to have missed this one. It was nice to meet Ludo, though. He filled in for you in style. Not sure if Jesper is reading this. He is returning to Denmark tomorrow, so I doubt he will visit Vancouver Island this time around. Hope to see you soon. Sibylle

Rhonda's Report

Craig,
I completely customeized my personal World Run yesterday. I misunderstood the meeting point for meeting with Cheryl re placing a car at one end of a one way run. So, I waited at the hydrant by Brockton Oval until 9, then took off on Stanley Park trails up to Prospect Point and back, for 45 minutes. Cheryl drove over to Stanley Park after the start photo at Centennial. We then ran the seawall, 9.6km in one hour, hoping to catch sight of other Fat Ass runners. We had a great run, but no sightings.
So, if accepted, my total run time was 1:45, distance unknown, fun priceless.

Glenn's report

Thanks for a great event once again.

i"m sorry I couldn't make it to the Mosquito Creek Grill for the after-party. I had the kids & I understand their new licence doesn't allow minors. Oh well.

Since I wasn't there, I thought I'd email my finish info. Official time was 4:01:?? for the 50km event...

I customized it somewhat as follows... I managed to get all the 50km hopefulls slightly off course as I took them over to the Cap Pacific for a view of the river...doh! I guess it added a few hundred meters. Tim, Jesper & I were unclear as to where the exact turnaround was (our own fault), so we opted for a little extra (possibly 500 meters further) & ran to the first concession past the sailing club (Locarno Beach?). On the way back, Karl & I missed out on Bowser trail, so that would subtract a couple hundred meters...so I think I'm back to being even. Great run, great times & it was a real treat to spend so much time with Jesper. Glenn Pace
