Flash - Core Workout Party at Jackson's - Results

Several CFA members and friends benefited from a carefully-choreographed core workout this past weekend.

First to take advantage of the opportunity was Glenn Pace.  Fresh from a grueling workout at the Lord of the Loops, Glenn dropped by a day early.  The beer was still warm and the clock wasn't running, however, Glenn set the bar high in the wheelbarrow obstacle course portion of the relay event.  Given that his relay partner on the fill-the-wheelbarrow-with-dirt leg was absent, Glenn took on both legs.  His brutally efficient technique set the bar high for the big event on the following day.

The sun shone in a cloudless sky on Sunday as I filled the cooler with ice and Sleeman's pale ale.  As the sole participant in leg 3 (huck-the-dirt-uphill-and-complement-with-chunks-of-broken-granite), it took me several hours to dispatch the dirt pile Pace had created the previous day.  By mid-morning, the double dose of vitamin "I" from the night before began to wear off.  I was first to hit the cooler.

Ken Legg tried the wheelbarrow obstacle course after having put in a good KneeKnacker training run.  Desmond Mott followed, and quickly caught up to me on consumption of cool ones.  Wendy and Josh were the sole entrants in the team event.  Josh demonstrated fine technique in the wheelbarrow obstacle course, but was sidetracked by the slippery slide, rope swing and mountain bike trail ride with co-competitor Erik.  Sibylle and Wendy tag-teamed legs 1 and 2 of the relay and brought the event to a close.

As the tube steaks sizzled, Jon "Whale Shark" Husband showed up.  Was it by coincidence or design that he missed the core workout part of the party?  Jon blessed the accomplishments of the other participants as he helped make sure none of the beer or tube steaks went to waste.

All told, 8 cores got an excellent workout and there was ice cold beer left over.  A casual survey of all participants indicated that this should be an annual Club event.  While circumstances of the obstacle course won't make that possible, I do plan to have 1 more core workout day this coming weekend!
