Lord of the Loop(s) - 2009 Results

Report:  Well...the weather was spectacular & we had a stellar turnout. 40 Fat Asses & their friends & family came out to enjoy a picnic and a spirited run through the Capilano Canyon.

Race director, Max (age 8), gave a brief speech that summed up the spirit of Lord of the Loops...""Thank you all for coming out here today. The only rule is to have fun".

It was evident that everyone followed the instructions to a tee...smiles were everywhere & the Coho Loop Trail was swarming with enthusiastic runners of all ages. The 1km loop saw many pairings of parents & kids as they covered the course at a variety of speeds.

It seemed that everyone set a personal record of some sort & therfore, everyone was a winner. Here are some highlights:

A 1 year old was the fastest in the backpack category...there were a slew of first-time racers in the 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 11, &12 year old categories...a few kids ran their age in loops (1 loop per year of age)....Eric came away with the Lord of the Loops title as the single runner to run the most loops (10!)...runners observed whitewater canoes & kayaks cruising through the Capilano River...Max's grandfather, Peter...age 74, ran his first trail race & finished his loop to set a personal best as well as 2 records: the Most-Senior Participant, & the only participant with a pace-maker...old-school ultrarunners appreciated the fact that the clocked stopped during aid station breaks... Jen did a loop in the middle of a training run...Sarah & Alicia brought the juiciest watermelon...Penny should get double points for poop-scooping after Roxy...Sybille brought homemade bread...Koda was the hairiest participant...Georgia had the most pony-tails...Sebastian & Max showed us the future of trail running with a Freestyle Loop.

All in all, it seemed to be a great success & all the kids walked away with the ubiquitous Racer's Goody Bag.

Race Director Max would like to make this an annual event, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled on the race calendar & keep a weekend free for the next edition of Lord of the Loops
