Kelly Corday and I will be starting somewhere between 8-9pm and the plan is to run to Deep Cove from Grouse. Haven't worked out all the details yet, but somehow...
I will run in the morning - start at Skyline/Mosquito Creek around 7:30ish and run east, then turn around with some of the slower folks and go west. Will check the website in the morning to see if anybody wants to join me.
Since this run thrives on "custom distance" runners supporting the ultra runners in their quest to conquer the Baden Powell Trail twice, it helps to get updated of the runners where abouts. In past years, we've used phones and the website - which is fine, but I like to propose that those of you who do have a mobile device and use Twitter and/or Facebook, post updates on those sites.
For Facebook, probably best to post on the CFA Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/clubfatass - if you are using any of the Facebook apps for mobile devices this should be very easy.
For Twitter, please use hashtag #Vancouver100 to tweet updates.
CFA website, please post updates as comments at http://www.clubfatass.com/events/Vancouver100/results/2010 - the plan for a future update of the ActivePorker iPhone app is to facilitate posting directly from the app - which will make mobile updates a breeze.
I was on Black Mountain today and found some new things and a bunch of snow. There are new signposts at the bottom of the mountain indicating the way for the first part of the trail through the lush greenery and old growth of Nelson Canyon. And there's also a fancy shmancy new outhouse near to the intersection with the BP - very nice!
As for snow, it started about 10-15 minutes past the bluffs and continued on most of the way down the other side into Cypress Bowl. There was lots of water but no mud yet to speak of. For event day the mud isn't likely to be an issue on Black Mountain but the icy cold water in the deepening puddles will be hard to get around at some points.
If you are still considering signing up for a custom distance please make it so by going to the Application page. If you want to cheer on the runners or provide custom crewing, be sure to do it!

Hi Craig,
I travelled up from Cleveland dam 2 weeks ago and made it through Hollyburn and the traverse to Cypress. Once at Cypress I have to admit I could not find the re-start to the BP. I know I was on one of the Yew lake trails and was expecting to see a 'left' turn to take me up towards the top of Cypress but at that time it was all snow and there were no footprints. I know i was heading off in the wrong direction when I crossed over Cypress creek. I ended up going up the ski run to see if I could find the BP at the top of the chair lift.
I found the trail head but I could not find the route between the top of Cypress and the Cypress parking lot.
So my question is: Can you describe what condition the route is between the top of Eagle bluffs to the top of Cypress?
The route between Eagleridge Bluffs and the top of Black Mountain is not too bad (minus the soft snow and excessive cold water all over the place. You can see the trail in lots of places and you can certainly see the BP markers. It is not too hard to follow this year as long as you are following the BP markers.
As for the trail at the bottom in Cypress Bowl, It will be tough to identify the correct trail to get you up Black Mountain on the way out but it's not impossible by any means. Once you get to the Cypress Bowl parking lot and take your aid, head out to the new big chalet and go west. If you stay in a straight line across the face of the chalet you will run into the trail(s) that take you up the steep and winding trail to the top. From there, follow the footsteps in the snow (sort of) and of course the markers. I'm not sure if the BP markers start right away at the top of the winding steep section but the large orange square markers are there. Take any signs you see to Cabin Lake. From there it is all BP markers to the top of Black and bottom at Nelson Canyon.
And at the bottom where you first take the left turn to Nelson Canyon, there is now a sign post with large square yellow makers with green text. Hard to miss. And then you'll see the outhouse up the hill on the left.

Hello out there.
I'm looking for a crew to support me in the Vanc 100. I've done it before and would like to better my time. I hope to finish between 18-16 hrs. Please let me know if you are interested in crewing me for the first or second half or the whole thing!
Est times:
05:00 Start - Deep Cove
09:00 (3.5 to 4 hrs) Cleveland Dam
11:00 (2 hrs) Cypress
13:00 (2hrs) Turn around - Nelson Creek
15:30 (2.5 hrs) Cypress
17:00 (1.5 hrs) Cleveland Dam (optimistic time frame here)
I will help you and anyone else I can for the first 3/4's. At that point I intend to snug up the shoelaces and grab my light to make it a run on the last 1/4. I'll see you at the start line if not sooner. For other runners, I will help with you too but keep in mind I'll need to be tracking Mike for timing.
