Just a quick update to let you know that a small but fun bunch of the local
Club Fat Assers left the cold and snow on the ground a week or so back and
went over to warmer climates for some training er... running. We all planned
our winter warm weather escape and went and ran the Honolulu International
Marathon, held December 10th. Everyone with our group finished the marathon
with times in the 3:45 to 6 hour range. It was a hot and hard course... But
yes, while we were out there running we were all thinking of it "as a great
training run" for the Jan 1st event. Should be pretty similar conditions
right?? Ha-ha...
Please see the attached shot of our group, left to right Dan, Sheldon, Ruby,
Carie, Diane, Rhonda, and Pete SS. 3 generations of proud Fat Ass shirt
wearers.
Cheers, Pete
Ps You would have laughed, I wore my CFA shirt to the big expo and had no
less than a half a dozen people stop me and compliment me on it. One guy (I
think he was from Boston) was all keen on signing up for the club just so he
could get a CFA shirt...

Did you stop for a pint?
The year I ran Honolulu there was a nice man who set up a few kegs on his front lawn near Diamond Head. Runners were encouraged to stop and hydrate. It was American beer, so I needed a few. He kicked me out. Was he still there?
Merry Christmas!
No road pints for this cowboy...
Hi Ean,
Cool that you have been over to this event. It is a big one with 27,000 some odd runners. Nah, I didn't see the guy with the free beers out front, although if I had I may have stopped for good. The last 10 km or so were a bit of a gruel-a-thon but we all finished. The head and humidity just took it out of me. It may also have been the 1:44 first half in that heat too.... hmmm, may have to re-think the hot run strategy. :)
If anyone is thinking of a "road trip marathon" (as we call these destination runs) I would highly encourage Honolulu. It is fun and a nice place to go when Vancouver seems so dark and wet.
Looking forward to the Fat Ass, seeya there!

Can't wait!
Merry Christmas and Happy new year.

Holy smokes... 100 mile trail run?!?!
Very cool, a hundred miler. Please post a link to the event so us fat assers can check it out. For sure post a report after the event.
Enjoy the event (if you can enjoy a hundred mile race)...
Cheers,
