Leftover Baggage

As the sun sets on the 2009 Baggers Challenge, I have come to the sad conclusion that I should have quit my job if I were serious about bagging them all.

Yes, at one time I thought it might be possible to bag them all in one season.  It is.  But you have to get on it early and get those high bad boys while the sun shines and the days are long.

It's now getting to the point where it's cold up in them thar hills and there is precious little daylight left during which to bag.  Sigh.

As someone who has made a personal commitment to viewing the glass as being 1/2 full, however, I figure there might be a wacko or 2 left out there who might want to bag one of the Bagger Challenge peaks I've not yet bagged this year.  It's to you that this note is addressed.

Here are the peaks I have yet to bag:

CAT - Cathedral.  A high one.  A big day.
CAP - Capilano.  Could be done.  Would likely take a full day.
GOT - Gotha.  I may have got this one.  Still need to verify with the judges.
HAN - Hannover.  High.  Requires helmet and cohones, from what I understand.  Full day
LEA - Leading Peak on Anvil Island.  Needs a boat and 2 hours
KIL - Killam on Gambier Island.  Needs a boat and 5 hours.  Could be longer.  Unknown.
ART - Artaban on Gambier Island.  Needs a boat and 2 hours.

I figure it will take a sunny day and an early start for any and all.  If interested, contact me!

ART and LEA off the list

Managed to bag ART and LEA yesterday with a little help from my friends.  And the clock ticks...

BAG ON Action Jackson!!!

Logisitcally, just about impossible for me to join you (or just too darn costly), otherwise, I'd likely be out there having near death experiences with you in them thar hills.

In any case, it looks like you've made a great go of baggery this year - you can't be TOO dissapointed, now can you?

Judging by the rules, looks like you should go for the toughest ones in the event of a tie, which seems damn near eminent with the pace you and D. Crerar are knocking these things down.

This is when having a "real job" just plain sucks. As if I needed another excuse to think my plain job sucks...

My hat, er, my helmet is off to you, David and the other baggers. Well done!

Helmet?

Well, I actually didn't really get to use Glenn's climbing helmet for its intended purpose.  It became my hat for Hat Peak, which we didn't actually even bag that day due to snow.

Here's a thought:  Why not organize your own Baggers Challenge closer to home?  That will give you the opportunity you need to quit your job and become a bag bum like some of your Canuck buddies!

Surely, you could find a few dozen peaks if you picked ones that were 400' high or something like that?

You've 'peaked' my interest...

It's a great suggestion Ean. I think we can even muster something as high as 800 or even 1,000ft round these here parts, so I'll do a little investigation on our topography to see what the possibilities are.

Will DEFINITELY involve a lot of bushwhacking, which is a term that I've only learned since meeting you all - so I'm really glad to have had this opportunity to use it appropriately and correctly in a sentence!

I have a Fat Ass style run with the local Ultra Runner’s Group (S.L.U.G.s) tomorrow morning on a portion of the 100-mile course I’ll be trying in a few weeks. I’m going to share this idea with one or two of them and see if they’d be interested in helping me scout some peaks. I’m sure some of them would!

I’ll keep you in the loop if this develops…
