Well, good news folks. The boys are doing fantastic! The weather cooperated superbly. Warm during the day and then it started to cool off. Linda and I went to see them at Mt Rose and then at Spooner (the half way mark). They are in great spirits and are looking great albeit a little stinky. Luckily, the high altitude did not seem to bother any of them. Woohoo!!
Update on each runner we have seen.
Glen: looking good, ate a good bit at the half way mark, was happy to be eating tons of calories and only lost half a pound. Manon, the good wife, put the rest of us to shame when she took care of his feet (mostly preventative)
Gilles: At Mt Rose, Gilles said, "This is my kind of race". He was even ahead of John (which concerned Linda and I since we instructed them to stay together to make it easier on the shopping expeditions). At Spooner, I succombed to the peer pressure and helped Gilles with feet management. Compared to providing blister care, the preventative thing seemed a little less gross (although it was dustier)
John: LInda knew her man when she decided to stop and get pizza for him. John did run into a little trouble with his ankle early on but it seemed to go away. He later caught up with Gilles and surpassed him at Spooner. But, both were happy to leave together to encoutner the night trails side by side
Baldwin: He was looking good and in great spirits. He was happy and confident to know that he had 21 hours to complete the race at the halfway mark. Way to go for your first 100M
Chad: He was happy to see us. Thankfully, he was in good condition to change his shoes on his own. He got excited with the offer of pizza and 2 secs later realized that it was perhaps not the best idea.
I met a couple of you FA's at the TRT100. You guys did great! I saw your last finisher cross the line...he was actually skipping! Also, I ran a nice chunk of the race with Glen - he can torch those downhills. One hell of a nice guy. He (and your club) are mentioned in my blog at: http://endurazone.blogspot.com/ - also I think there is a photo of Glen's FA going up one of the climbs :)

Well, John and Linda just came back to the hotel with our last finisher: Baldwin Lee. He deserves the greatest kudos. He finished in 34 hours 10 min which means he was out in the heat longer than anyone. John and Gilles finished in 29 hours 23 mins, Glen just under 28 hours and Chad 29hrs 44 min. Unforetunately, it was not a good night for Andy, the word is that he had to drop (no details available)

The night before the Western States 100-miler a few weeks ago, Bill Dagg, Ryne Melcher, Danielle and I went to the beach at North Lake Tahoe. I recall looking out at the spectacular scene of snow-capped mountains that surrounded Lake Tahoe and thinking, "Holy crap... that's a long way to run!"
Good luck guys. You inspire me to get out and go for a run in the rain!
