Avalanche and Backcountry Safety

With the recent and repeated avalanche warnings and the high number of avalanche fataities this year, our family has been talking about taking a back country safety course and avalanche safety training.

Both Action Jackson and I are drawn to back country skiing.  As of yet, we do not have any equipment, but it is on our radar... Craigslist watch out!  I have a low risk tolerance and like to be prepared...

The downfall of a Runners High

After returning from doing the R2R2R down at the grand canyon I was just buzzing with excitement. Even after sitting in a “minivan” 50+ hours and returning home at 5:30am in the morning then heading to work at 7:00am I couldn’t shake the buzz. Wednesday is my weekly run with the local gang from Fairhaven runners and I just couldn’t wait to tell my story of the past few days.

Cold Remedies for Runners

Plantar Fasciitis - Yuk!

I'd heard of it.  I sure couldn't spell it.  Before I got it, I figured anyone who whined about their foot being sore was a wuss... but this injury sidelined me for the better part of 9 months.

Stretching after a long Run

Training for the Vancouver New Year's Fat Ass 50 is going well. Yesterday we tackled 3h on the course. Starting at Kits Point we headed west passed the pool and the old tree trunk on the beach, followed Point Grey Road to Jericho Beach. This used to be my home turf and running along the groomed gravel path always felt decadent. The views are magnificent with the the waters of English Bay stretching to the North Shore Mountains. At Spanish Banks we left the beach and clambered uphill into the trails of Pacific Spirit Park.

Trail Running with a Broken Foot?

For the past year, I've had a bad foot. After months of X-rays, bone scans, diagnoses from doctors, physiotherapists, podiatrists and a few quacks, I learned I had Plantar Fasciitis.
