It is with great sadness that I pass this on.
My stepfather, Peter "Pappy" Mura Sr, passed away suddenly in his sleep on the morning of June 5th. He was 74.
Peter was somewhat of a fixture at many running events in which his wife, children, & even grandchildren participated. He especially loved watching the finish of the Knee Knacker, & the Coho Run.
Though he may not have looked the part, Peter was deeply involved in the ultrarunning community. He would follow his families exploits on the trails & support them in any way he could....whether by cooking those phenomenal recovery meals, watching the grandchildren while their parents traipsed off to run a 100 miler in some other land, or funding various charitable races.
Some of you may remember Peter as the big guy with a hearty laugh & a genuine smile. Some of you have even sampled his food....he was the guy who made chili & lasagna for the Dirty Duo a few years ago.
Most recently, Peter took up the sport of trail running...with none other than a Fat Ass Event. Peter finished his 1km loop of Lord of the Loops with as much pride & accoplishment of any ultrarunner. His family was very proud of him & his smile beamed for many days. In his race application he made himself an honorary Fat Ass..."Of course I'm a member....look at me!" he decared.
His passion & his smile will be sorely missed.
No need to post condolences....just send out thoughts & prayers the old fashion way...Hug your loved ones, don't fret trivialities, take a deep breath, & just enjoy what's around you.
If you find yourself with a glass of wine, send a thought to Peter Sr.
