I am no longer a 100 mile virgin...

I finished the Haliburton Forest 100 Miler in 28 Hours 24 minutes and 20 seconds, I had over an hour and a half to spare on the generous 30 hour cutoff...

For my first hundred miler, it was a learning experience.

There are a lots of things, that you can get away with in the shorter ultras, that could seriously mess up your chances of success in a 100 Miler. Not pacing the first 25 miles correctly, not eating enough protein, not having the drop bags well thought out, not getting turned around (three times!), not having a good light and leaving the spare flashlight at the 75 mile aid station, not changing socks when my shoes were filling with very fine sand, and not putting on a warm dry top for the night run.

After all that, I still managed to beat the course. The spirit of the forest must have wanted me to make it through - or I'm one lucky bugger.

I love this sport!

your first 100...

Congratualtions Carlos! Sounds to me like things went pretty well for you ;) You look quite satisified in the picture and very happy. Way to go.

Congrats Carlos

Awesome job!!!!! It says a lot about a runner who can have that many things go wrong and still finish the race. I look forward to hearing all the gory details!
