Just wanted to post a quick recap of our weekend and let everyone know it was an absolute 'blast'! Cheesy I know!
Geoff Palmer picked the date and threw it out there. Myself, Tom Craik and Duncan Coo all jumped at the chance to tackle this trail.
The distance is somewhere around 50k, maybe even a bit less, but it still took the four of us a full 12hr to get through the trail. Without our map we surely would have been longer and may have been out after dark. There are numerous route finding sections and some very technical scrambling and steep washouts to deal with. I would say that you need to be competant with a map, and prepared for one hell of a long day to even attempt this route. We were sure to carry all of our emergency gear and fully prepared to travel after dark if necessary. Having said all of that, it was one of the most spectacular routes I have seen. I have posted the highligts of our hundreds of pics on my blog and will do a full run recap in the coming days.

Talk about old...
Permits to get high
That sounds pretty cool Jackson...and yeah, you's old bro! The run was mainly between 3500 and 4500 feet. You need a permit to approach the rim of the crater, or anything above 4800 feet. Running the trail is free however, as is the parking and camping in the parking lot! Total cost per person with gas, food, camping the night after, etc was just $60.00!!
