Judgment Day

All of the 2010 annual Club contests are coming to a close!

Monday 27 December 2010 is the last day for both the Club Point Series and Refer a Friend contests.  Any points you earn after noon on the 27th will count towards next year's tally.

Unless someone comes up with a big surprise, it looks like we might have a tie this year.  Since there's a lot at stake and still some time to squeeze in a point or two, I'd like to clarify how we will decide a winner when two or more people have earned the same number of points.

Club Points

Here's how the judges have always determined a winner:

  • Total Points.  Highest number of Club points  wins.  (No brainer that 60 points beats 59.)  But, if there is a tie...
  • Number of Events.   We look at the number of event participation points and give the person who has participated in fewer events the tie breaker

Let me clarify:  While we want to encourage Club members to participate in Club events, event participation is weighted higher.  (e.g. You get 2 points for attending an event.)  We also want to acknowledge the other activities that earn Club points (e.g. sharing your photos, referring your friends, picking up trash) as this makes it fairer for those who are injured.

Refer a Friend

  • we will first look at the type of member that was referred.  An referral to someone who joins the Club for a year ranks higher than a referral to someone who joins the Club for the day
  • if there still is a tie, the winner will be determined by a draw.

 Other things to consider:

  • Claim it or lose it.  As with the Bagger Challenge, Club contests discourage "sandbagging" (not disclosing your accomplishments until the last minute.)  While an accomplishment is indeed an accomplishment, any contest points need to be claimed within 3 days of earning them.  This means it is now too late to claim photo points from anything that is older than 3 days old.

True Sportsmanship

Aawww!  In the spirit of the Club Fat Ass Point Series and true sportsmanship, the two leaders in the point series have been chatting about the possibility of a tie... not that they not tried tooth and nail to win this thing, BUT, despite all the efforts, it looks like they are still ending up with the same score...I haven't looked at the latest referrals yet, but I don't thing there are more last minute surprises...

So, our champions prefer a tie over a tie breaker and would like to take  the crown together.  Since there is only one grand prize, Jess kindly offered Reagan the loot, a pair of Salomon trail running shoes provided by our business member and footwear expert extraordinaire, Kintec.   I think both Jess and Reagan just earned an extra point!

I am reconciling the last referral points today and will post the official results tomorrow.

Hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........

Where'd the sandbagger rule come from?  I was saving my Club t-shirt photos as a Christmas present to everybody.  How about 3 days from the 25 December?

Serves you right, Jackson!

I always knew you were a BIGGER SAND BAGGER than me!!!!! (From Jason, NOT Lauren)
