Major Loss to Our Community-Remembering Denis and Richard

Very sad news today, devastating. Denis Fontaine and Richard Juryn lost their lives in a kayaking accident yesterday in Howe Sound. Denis and I (and many others) were best friends and I will miss him so much. Denis was a complete ball of energy and if anyone truly lived life to the fullest, it was him. My thoughts go to his family and Cheryl Beatty as well as to Richard's family and friends.

I'm so sorry for the families and friends, especially you and the Jacksons. Sounds like your friend lived every moment. An intense life is such a shocking loss, it just means more people know and love them. Maybe the healing is in remembering and in taking care of each other.

Hard to believe...

It's been a very sad day.  I had to explain to my kids that the friend we've spent many Christmases with didn't come home for Thanksgiving dinner and never will.  Neither will the crazy character we snowshoed with in the deep pow at Elfin Lakes.  It doesn't seem fair that 2 guys who were so full of life will no longer enjoy it. 

Richard, Denis, you both inspired so many with your energy, sense of humor and love of adventure.  I will miss you and think of you often.  My heartfelt condoleances to your families and many, many friends.
