Kahtoola microspikes?

Hi, I'm new here, looking forward to participating in some CFA events in 2009! I've been thinking of getting some Kahtoola microspikes for wintry trails, I notice that someone is wearing them in the photos from Galbraith - wondered if anyone has any positive or negative comments about them? I know there are also "Yak Trax" but from the comments on MEC they sound too flimsy for me; one of the two comments about the Kahtoolas is from a trail runner in Calgary who sings their praises. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has experience with them!

Sale or trade?

One slightly used pair of micro-spikes, used for less than 5K's worth in all soft snow. Willing to consider trade for a pair of more appropriate swim fins or tall gum boots with the weather change.

Microspikes are great!!

Hi There,

I bought the spikes three weeks ago when we started getting all this snow in YVR. I had purchased the Yaktrax before and I tell you, there is a significant difference! The microspikes are awesome. Super-grip! I had no falls and so far one slip (Ice-snow, uphill or downhill).  I did the 50 km run yesterday and they worked like a charm. They will not come off your shoe as Yaktrax do sometimes. They really stay on, and if you wonder how is the transition from snow to pavement, it's not best, but it's OK, you don't have to take them off necessarily, I didn't, they won't get damaged if used on the bare road. In other words, I'd give them a five. Use them for regular runs in the city or hikes where may find some snow. Hope this helps :) Claudia

thanks :)

Hi Claudia, thanks for your comments, helpful indeed. Now, if only there were any left in my size :)

I'm on Galiano right now (missed the 50k - i was here), the Gulf Islands haven't had as much snow as Vancouver in the last little while so my snowshoes aren't very useful, but I can see how the microspikes would be GREAT, there are lots of slippery slopes. Hopefully by the time I get some, there will still be some snow / ice around to try them on! I'm heading to Calgary on Monday, I'll check mec online & see if that store has any.

Thanks again, look forward to meeting you at an event one of these days.

Katie
