12 June 2010 - 26 Starters/26 Finishers
What a fine day for a trail run!
After weeks and weeks of rain and cool temperatures, those who showed up for the 8th annual XTC were treated to blue skies and pleasant temperatures. Given the Cypress Picnic area (25K turnaround) was closed for renos, several participants opted to run out and back from Cleveland Dam. Most, however opted for the 50K. Many thanks, Des, for stashing water for everyone at the turnaround.
I was pleased to see many new members of the Club out today. Also, a big Canuck welcome to Michael and Scott who joined us from Washington. Since it was his birthday, I thought I’d bring along
Piggy as I was only supposed to run a few token kilometers. (Note, Piggy is made of solid brass and weights a ton!)
The pace group I settled in with was a blast. We chatted about all manner of things and the section to the dreaded dogleg passed by in a flash. Scott and I learned that we could have been neighbors in Houston,
Texas. Killanie and I trash talked to each other about the Bagger Challenge. Given all of the recent rain, we all got soakers on the narrow and partially overgrown dogleg. Jonathan and I stopped to gobble down a few handfuls of ripe, juicy salmonberries.
We continued to run as a group through the Capilano Canyon. Our out-of-town visitors especially appreciated meeting Grandpa Capilano. No bears were encountered as we made our way across Cypress Mountain, but it was quite evident they were in the 'hood. We stopped to chat with other runners along the trail and a warning was passed back: Watch out for the slippery bridge!
Our discussion turned to how the teapot came to be next to the trail? Then there was the red chair. How and why was it sitting next to the trail? When we arrived at the slippery bridge, a group of returning runners had opted to wade through the creek rather than risk sliding into it! Thanks to Guy, Killaine and I got a ride back at 25K and was able to get in a bit of yardwork as the 50K runners enjoyed their run home.
Thanks to Kelly at the Mosquito Creek Grill, everyone was treated to a cool one at the finisher brunch. A TrailRunner subscription went to Michael and Scott for having travelled the farthest. Thankfully, the Purple Heart recognition for injuries incurred during the run went for minor scrapes and bruises, but Tim ought to have received an award for falling off his chair.
'Hope everyone had as much fun as I did. Thank you for a great day... and hope to see you back next year!

Thanks Ean for putting on the event . I came in just after Sadie the ultra dog. My time was 6:35 for the full 50km, and of course I did pick-up trash. Sorry I missed out on the extra strong beer at the Mosquito Creek Grill. Strong enough to make people fall off their chairs. Can we make a batch of that?

It happens to us all... once!
I'll spare the person any potential embarassment, but since we've all probably done it, I thought I'd share that one of our number showed up at the start sans-sneakers. The good news is that she managed to get home, get her shoes and run a great run in. Congrats to 'ya! =;-)
Its all good...and yes, it won't happen again!!!
No potential embarassment!! Its all good. I am very glad I didn't take the opportunity to try out barefooting on this gnarly run! I did have a great run! What an amazing day...Thanks for a fantastic event!!
Thanks for hosting Ean!
Had a great run yesterday. Thank you for hosting and bringing Piggy out for his birthday run.
