Location:
Pacific Spirit Park, Vancouver BC
What:
A week-day evening trail run, in a group. Expect mud, rain, cold temperatures, total darkness, slippery roots and stairs.
Possibly magnificent views of the ocean, north shore mountains, and downtown Vancouver. And bunnies.
Why:
Getting your post-work day, winter-time trail run done is less miserable with company. Even if you already know (and bored of) the trails in Pacific Spirit, I promise you’ll see something new, and besides, everything is different in the dark.
When:
Monday, March 14, at 8 pm.
Where:
Meet at the entrance to Jericho Park East, at the end of Point Grey Road under the weeping willow.
Route:
Specifics will be decided and shared at the start. It usually consists of a 60-90 minutes run on trails in and around Jericho/Locarno/Spanish beach path and the Pacific Spirit Park. Different route every time.
Park route map is available here.
The Plan:
Meet at Jericho East, short briefing, start running in a group led by me at a comfortable pace for everyone, finish at Jericho East, have some hot home made soup and buns under the weeping willow.
Is This Run For Me?
You should be comfortable with trail running, and with running in the dark.
Mostly these are not very technical trails, and we are in the middle of the city; however it will be dark, cold, wet, muddy, and slippery. You may fall. You may also have a lot of fun.
Don’t forget:
A good strong headlamp/flashlight, and a cellphone
Entry: There is no fee and you don't need to be a member of Club Fat Ass to participate in a Flash event, however whining is not allowed. Run report
Tim, Navid, and I headed off into a warm, quiet, and dry March evening.
En route we were shortly joined with Cyril (sp.?) who was looking for some light and running company in the woods.
Our now merry group of four made our way at a slow recovery pace along the ocean and up Spanish, coming back down Pioneer and back to the start.
We finished off our outing with hot Brocolli soup and buns, under the good old weeping willow.
