Flash - Pacific Nights 1102

19 Jan 2011 18:00
19 Jan 2011 19:30
Location:
Pacific Spirit Park, Vancouver BC

What:
A mid-week trail run, in the evening, in a group. Expect mud, rain, cold temperatures, total darkness, slippery roots and stairs.
Possibility of magnificent views of the ocean, north shore mountains, and downtown Vancouver.
Why:
Getting your mid-week, post-work, winter-time trail run done is less miserable with company. Even if you already know all (and bored of) the trails in Pacific Spirit, I promise you’ll see something new, and besides, everything is different in the dark.

When:
Wednesday, January 19, at 6pm in the evening.

Where:
Meet at the entrance to Jericho Park East, at the
end of Point Grey Road under the weeping willow.

Route:
Trails in and around Jericho/Locarno/Spanish beach seawall and the Pacific Spirit Park.
Different route every time.
Tonight: ~10 km, 60-75 minutes.

Start at Jericho beach -> Locarno beach -> Spanish Banks -> left and up un-named stairs and trail that lead to Balanca street -> right to Belmont Avenue (Billionaires' row) -> right and down stairs and trail that lead back to Spanish banks -> left and up to Spanish trail -> Sharp right to Admirality -> Down canyon stairs, up canyon stairs on the other side -> Left and up West Canyon trail -> Left and down East Canyon trail -> Right to un-named short connector trail -> Right and up Pioneer trail -> Left to Chancellor trail -> Left and down Spanish trail ->
back to the start along the seawall path of Spanish/Locarno/Jericho beaches.
Park route map is available here.

The Plan:
This is a group run, led by me. I know these trails fairly well.
We’ll run by the pace of the slowest in our group, and I’ll do my best to keep everyone together and safe.

Is This Run For Me?
You should be comfortable with trail running, and with running in the dark.
Mostly these are not very technical trails, and we are in the middle of the city; however it will be dark, cold, wet, muddy, and slippery. You may fall. You may also have a lot of fun.

Don’t forget:
A good strong headlamp/flashlight, and a cellphone

Entry: There is no fee and you don't need to be a member of Club Fat Ass to participate in a Flash event, however whining is not allowed. Run report

Maddie, Alex, Mia the wonder dog, and myself toed the line on Jericho beach for another dry and crisp winter evening trail run.

We ran along some pompous Point Grey mansions sporting gigantic outdoor vases, and then up and down serene forest trails. Downtown Vancouver shined brightly as we made our way back through the Jericho sailing center beach, and back to our start line for a well deserved home made soup (tonight's version: cream of potatoes), buns, and a chat.

Awesome soup again

What better way to spend a Wednesday.

Thanks again for the grub! Sure was tasty.
