Route: The course will consist of a 10 kilometer loop plus a short 1.5 K loop which will be done near the end of the twelve hours when there is not enough time left to do the 10 K loop again. The 10 K loop is on the south side of Sixteenth Avenue and requires crossing the road. Don't forget to look both ways, just like your mommy taught you. Maps and foolproof directions will be provided at the start.
Course Description:
The # refers to the trail numbers as shown on the official park map available at the Park Centre.
DIRECTIONS FOR THE 10K LOOP: Start and Finish is the gate at the parking lot entrance.
- Go north through the back of the parking lot onto #2, Cleveland to #10, Heron.
- Left onto Heron to #21, Salish.
- Left again onto Salish and across 16th to the continuation of Salish. Stay on Salish until you reach #12, Imperial trail.
- Left on Imperial to #22, Sasamat.
- Right on Sasamat to junction of #19, St. Georges.
- Right on St. Georges to Camosun Street.
- Right on Camosun Street, just after the school on your right you will see a trail entrance, take that short trail to the big information board at the corner of Camosun, 41st Ave and S.W. Marine Dr.
- Take the SW Marine trail that parallels the highway. After about .75 K you will come to an intersection.
- Go right for a very short distance and then left onto the trail that goes into the forest.
- This is trail #21, Salish. Do not take the Clinton trail #3 or the trail that continues to parallel the highway.
- Follow Salish, Heron and Clevland all the way back to the Park Center.
- Do it again and again and.... Reverse directions if you want a change of scenery.
DIRECTIONS FOR THE 1.5K LOOP: Start and Finish is the gate at the parking lot entrance.
- Go north again on #2, Cleveland trail. Continue past #10 and then eft on #13, Lily of the Valley. This is about halfway between 16th and 10th.
- This will quickly take you back to #21, Salish. Go left. Shortly after you will encounter #10, Heron.
- Left onto Heron. This will take you back to #2, Cleveland.
- Right on Cleveland to the Park Center. Once again make sure to circle to the entrance of the parking lot for a full 1.5k.
Lap Counting: You are responsible for counting your own loops. If you can't count then this run is probably not for you.
Results: If you want to be included in the results print your name, distance or loops and time on the sheet that will be under the windshield wiper of Karl's light green Dodge Caravan licence ANF 954.
Climbing: Minor elevation changes.
Aid: Be prepared to be self-sufficient. There will be water at the Park Centre washrooms. Of course we will also have access to our vehicles at the end of each loop.
Motto: Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool.
Entry: There is no fee and you don't need to be a member of Club Fat Ass to participate in a Flash event, however whining is not allowed. No registration is required but please indicate your participation via the comment form below. You are responsible for your own well-being and safety and should be self sufficient. Please read the

My results - we missed you Sybille
Hi Karl,
You may be wondering if there was a 4-year old who completed 43 km.... I'm referring to my final results recording... my writing was severely impaired. I was cold and my hands were wet and it was very, very hard to write :) I hope you were able to decipher it was me... anyways... THANK YOU GUYS (You and Gill for organizing this). we talked about it. I wouldn't come out by myself on a day like this to run 43 km... for sure... the inspiration from other people (like you) running 12 hours... or + good company (Van) and all others who came out, made it much easier. I was bitter cold when I finished, but I was happy...I got my official MARATHON MANIACS QUALIFICATION. Thanks again, it wouldn't have been possible without your help!!!
Sybille, we missed you, we'll see you at the New Year's Fass 50 km, hopefully before.
Claudia
Did not make it...
Hope all went well.

Run Day Information
Rick has provided an updated map of the course, which Sibylle has kindly posted in the race details. Thanks to both of you.
The official park hours are 8 AM to 5 PM. Those are also the hours during which the washrooms will be open. For the start we can park along 16th avenue by the Park Centre. If you plan on finishing after 5 PM make sure that your car is not in the parking lot, you might get locked in.
Sunrise is at 7:51 AM and sunset is at 4:15 PM, so bring your flashlights. Keep in mind that much of the run is in the forest so it may be dark in there for some time after sunrise and before sunset.
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow,
Karl

short gerbil
Turns out that the little
Time to 'Fess Up
It seems that the Foolish Gerbil course is a little short of what was advertised. Two of the Fools originally measured the course with their bike computers and came up with approximately 10K. Rick Arikado measured the course with his super, duper, million dollar GPS and came up with 9.48 K. Thanks Rick. Glad to see someone is paying attention and keeping us honest.
So...in the interest of reasonable accuracy the course has been changed slightly at the start to add the extra distance. We will now go north through the back of the parking lot onto #2, Cleveland. Take the first left onto #10, Heron, left again onto #21 Salish and across 16th to the continuation of Salish as on the original course. This will now make the course about 10K.
For complete directions see the course description in the event details.
See you at 6!

No Markings
Hi Van,
No markings, no aid, no entry fee. And we always deliver what you paid for.
It's a pretty easy course to follow, and after one loop you will be in daylight and shouldn't have any trouble at all. There will certainly be people at your pace that you can do the first loop with.
Hope you decide to come up,
Karl
sounds fun
I'm going to try to make it. Coming from south of seattle, so thinking i'll be there around 9am and planning on running 50K. would love to run more but having people over and need to get back. Hope to see everyone!
Van
