Great Run

Thanks for a great run yesterday.  I really did enjoy it!  I did get "misplaced" a few times though.  Enjoyed Sword-Fern trail and Clinton trail more than once.  I hope I don't get too "misplaced" at Mike and Melissa's this Saturday.  I must remember to pack my whistle, headlamp and emergency blanket Surprised

Thanks Fools!

What a great day for a run!  Once again, I ended up running much longer than originally planned.  Thanks Karl and Gilles for the company and pacing!  Kirsten

Foolish Gerbils run 6 hours

I want to see if I can do it.  2 things; Not to get lost and to see if I can last 6 hours.  I am preparing for my Goofy Marathon and a Half.  Anyone has any suggestions for me?  i.e to strengthen my hip flexors, and my left calf and how to ensure complete elimination before my run so that I will not need to look for a porta pottie.

I have some suggestions...

Back to back runs are key. So a long4-5 hour run on Saturday and then 1/2 time/distance on Sunday. This would be close to the Goofy scenario.

I'm not one to ask about rehabbing hip flexors or calves. (probably cause I have such huge calves) But maybe you should get your hands on some astronaut diapers, so no need to look for a portapottie.

Hope that helps.

I'll join in on the insanit..fun!

Put me down for a few hours as well. Might as well get used to running like a gerbil for Triple Century.

Course Directions

DIRECTIONS FOR THE 10K LOOP:

Start and Finish is from the yellow post at the back of the parking lot.

Across 16th Ave. to trail #30, Sherry Sakamoto which run along 16th Ave.

Left on the first trail that enters the forest. That’s #21, Salish.

Stay on Salish until you reach #12, Imperial trail. Keep an eye on the trail signs, some intersection are tricky.

Left on Imperial to #22, Sasamat.

Right on Sasamat to junction of #19, St. Georges.

Right on St. Georges to Camousun Street.

Right on Camousun Street, just after the school on your right you will see a trail entrance, take that short trail that will take you to the big wooden/map of Pacific Spirit Park at the corner of Camousun, 41st Ave and S.W. Marine Dr.

From that entrance of the park take #21, Salish all the way back to 16th Ave and to the Park Center.

Make sure to circle around the yellow post to make it 10k.

DIRECTIONS FOR THE 1.5K LOOP:

This time from the other end of the parking lot go north on #2, Cleveland trail.

Left on #13, Lily of theValley. This is about halfway between 16th and 10th.

This will quickly take you back to #21, Salish. Take left.

Shortly after you will encounter #10, Heron. Take left .

This will take you back to #2, Cleveland.

Right on Cleveland to the Park Center.

Once again make sure to circle to the entrance of the parking lot for a full 1.5k.

- These directions with the map of the park, available at the Park Center, and you're set.

- I will be very slow with plenty of walking for the first loop so stay with me for a detailled tour of the course.

- If you don't want to start slow, go with the fast monkeys, Karl or Chad. They don't smell as good but they know the course.

Currently unfit, but still a fool.

I just joined CFA this week. Glad to hear you don't have to run for 6 hours to participate as I am just coming off an injury. Will you all laugh at me if I only do 1 loop? I get lost real easy & am completely unfamiliar with the area. I'll need that map & foolproof directions so I don't accidentally run around in circles for an extra 5 hours or more.

getting lost or not

If I'm not working, I'll be there, doing one loop or so and cheering a lot and remembering, you can't get lost with friends ... it's just an extended adventure. Kristie  Smile

Glad to hear

That I am not the only one getting lost... we'll get lost together. I have learned that the "getting lost" has now become a formal part of my trail runs... :) and races... so you'll have some company ME!!. We'll all look after each other. Lots of fun always on this runs, seems pretty straight forward.

Glad you'll join us on

Glad you'll join us on Sunday.  I will try to be there too (still mumbling about a Saturday run...but if that does not pan out, 2 loops with the Fools would fit nicely in my training).  I am fairly familiar with the trails in Pacific Spirit Park, but am not sure which loop we are following - I guess I'll see on Sunday morning. As an added bonus, I also can read maps, hehehe Smile The good news is that getting lost in Pacific spirit Park is not like getting lost on the North Shore...there usually is a road not to far away and continuing in one direction you will eventually hit the university, the ocean or a road...

Foolproof Map and Directions

I will have both available at the start. Just remember the motto.

If anyone laughs at you Helen (which I doubt) it will say more about the laugher than the laughee.

Once a Fool Always a Fool...

I am in.  Karl has a bunch of park maps that he was going to highlight the route and distribute to the runners.  The loop sticks to main trails and has trail markers at the intersections so it is pretty easy to follow.

See you on Sunday,

Chad

Map to the start

Lots of foolish gerbils out there, it seems.  I added a map above to help locate the Park Center. Here is a Park Map.

I am considering running part of this as well.  Have to check how it fits in with our weekend plans, but I should get 3-4hours in.

Foolish Gerbil Six Hour

I mean Sunday - I am looking forward to it Kiss

Yes, Sunday...

It's generally considered bad form to show up on the wrong day.

It's good that you are finally coming out for an event. Right now your cost per event is very high. You can bring that down significantly by doing some of the other upcoming events. There are a few more before the end of the year, and they are all good ones.

Make sure to bring whatever you need, the aid at FA events is usually fairly minimal, although occationally we are pleasantly surprised. And, as Gilles has mentioned, you are welcome to run whatever distance or time you want. We will have a time sheet available for you to fill in at the Park Centre.

Foolish Gerbil Six Hour

I plan to come this Saturday.  Not sure how many loops I will do (a few ... maybe more).  This will be my very first official CFA event, even though I have been a member for more than one year!  Yikes :)

Exact location - running two loops (maybe three)

Hi There,

I'm not 100% familiar with the area, just want to have an idea of the exact location. I know how to get there, but when I look at Google Maps, it shows me couple of different locations. Help is appreciated to find the start of the first loop :) Claudia

Not far from civilization

Going west on 16th, the last cross street before the park is Blanca, the entrance to the Park Center is about 2 blocks further on your right. The Park Center itself doesn't look like much, just a trailer really. But it has washrooms and water.

Plan to run 2-3 loops is this okay ?

Plan to run several loops 2-3 hours is this okay?

No question ask

Of course it's OK. That's the beauty of CFA events, you make it what you want it to be.
