Word on the street is that the ski hills above Vancouver will be closing this coming Sunday (13 April.) This is a crime, because these same mountains (Cypress, Grouse and Seymour) are currently enjoying over 5 meters of snow base. Use it or lose it.
What: A few hours of hookey for those who enjoy sliding down a snow covered mountain. Sunshine and mushy bumps. (Hopefully!)
Where: Olympic Chair, Grouse Mountain, BC Canada. It's not that big, so we will surely find one another.
When: 11:00 am 'till whenever. Rain date on Saturday and/or Sunday.
Who: Members of Club Fat Ass, their friends and anyone else who might be interested
How:
Choose your weapon: Snowboard, downhill, back country or telemark skis. (Purists, leave your skins at home.) Sorry, they don't allow toboggans or plastic bags at Grouse. If you want to go snowshoeing, fill your boots on Dam Mountain and Thunderbird Ridge... the sliders can hook up with you at the pub afterwards.
Current weather forecasts call for partially sunny weather on Thursday. If conditions on the hill play a role in your decision to play hookey at the last minute, you might want to consult Grouse's virtual lie line or the telephone lie line at 604-986-6262. (Yes, lie line. Conditions may not always be as represented, but these info lines do give an idea of the conditions you can expect.)
Since this is supposed to be a day at the beach, I strongly recommend you wear your Hawaiian shirt. Don't have an aloha shirt? You can pick one up for $5 at any thrift store. If there's nothing at the Sally Ann that meets your high standards, I can loan you one as I have lots!
How much: I certainly won't charge you for the opportunity to kick my butt, but Grouse will. Link to Grouse Mountain lift rates

Wednesday Evening Snow Report
I was hoping to get a few good warm-up runs in tonight. Ended up almost freezing my buns off. It's still winter up there!
Good news is that there is a lot of snow in dem dar hills. Bad news is that the liftie confirmed this Sunday is the last day. Worse news: Grouse has taken the red tram out of service, so the lineups are horrific to get up the hill.
I'm planning to be at the Olympic chair on Thursday around noon. It looks like summer weather for Saturday, so I hope to return with Hawaiian shirt then.
Snooze, 'ya lose!
Hmmm.
Too bad. So sad
