April 30 2011 - 30 Starters
Report: 28 runners toed the line for the 9th addition of the North Shore Enduro. Temperatures were ideal for the starters, but a little on the cool side for the underdressed lap counter. Michael Wardas lead the way for the guys; Dana Samis for the ladies. Both put in a strong 6-lap performance, along with Enduro veteran Karl Jensen and Ken Eng of Smithers. Ken was supposed to run the Capital Peak Ultra today; however, he left his passport back home in Smithers.
A lively group from Mission and Maple Ridge showed up for their first CFA event. Simone of Maple Ridge enjoyed the abundant mud puddles, while Anna left the course in search of more climbs.
While there were no bear sightings this year, James Clarke lost his dog. Fortunately, Desmond found the dog and had Ken return him to James. I gave them reward points for their effort.
Thanks to all those who participated; hope to see you again next year.

Next Day
I saw Ken Eng a few times in the Vancouver Marathon the next day.
That is a true back-to-back run -- 6 laps + a Marathon. Way to go Ken!
Thank you and Good Luck at Miwok
Hey Andy,
Many thanks for organizing the Enduro and for hanging out all day to manage the aid station. I enjoyed 2 loops with many old friends and met some new ones, too. Good luck at the Miwok 100K.
PS I picked up trash. Important point in the overall points standing. I fear the powers-that-be may be purposefully neglecting this and hoping that I am not paying attention =;-)
The powers that be would
The powers that be would like to make it known that I did calculate your trash point for the overall standings. Thanks for adding it above, Andy.
Thanks Ean
I hope to have a good race. I'll add a point for you!
A Big Thank You
For the recovery of the wayward dog, it is much appreciated. We spent the rest of the weekend doing recall training.
Cheers,
James
Thanks for the corrections,
Thanks for the corrections, Ray (via email) and Ken. I think I sorted the points and times out. Also added Event Host points for Andy .
Great little run for me with Nancy. Sorry to have to leave after one loop - important teenager b-day party was waiting at home.
Thanks for a fun day!
Many thanks to Andy for hosting a great event. This was my first CFA event and it was a lot of fun to meet people and get some trails in.
A correction to the points - Sara and Anna Elias should get a point for helping me lead Stetson back to James. Also, thanks to Sara and Anna for their company. It was a good time at the pub afterwards, chatting with Karl, Lorraine, and John.
I missed out on Capitol Peak this year (won't ever forget my passport again!) but the Enduro was a good first half of an improvised brick workout this weekend. I ran the BMO Vancouver Marathon today as the second half and was happy with a really comfortable, steady run. A great weekend of running!
I'll be checking to see what CFA event is happening whenever I'm down in Vancouver.
What a great Event Andy - thank you!
Well for me the weather was near perfect, still a bit chilly with the coolness in the air blow from the nearby snow covered mountains.
It was great seeing everyone out running loops, and sometimes changing direction made it more entertaining!
Personally I was hopeing to make 7 loops but alas it was not to be as I tried to go out and squeeze the 7th lap into 53 minutes I started to get very lightheaded with the sure sign of a bonk coming on. After about 10 minutes into that lap I decided this was not smart nor productive and turned around to wait for the others.
Dana came ripping in looking very fresh and happy, not even phased by the almost 50k with 4,000 ft of climbing over 6 laps. She's doing the V100 in 4 weeks so wish her luck!
Our host is planning on doing Miwok 100k next weekend and knowing Andy he;s going to kick some butt!
Karl was a great sight and encouraging face to see lap after lap trying to push me onto 7 laps.
Thank you thank you to the gal that gave me a gel at the start/finish area. And thanks to Ken who also gave me another gel and oh ya John who gave me 2 - wow I sponged 4 gels!
Thanks to all who attended it was fun, sorry I missed the after party I was so cold after I had to get home and warm up.
Cheers,
Michael
