Galbraith Mountain Tour - 2009 Results

19 December 2009 - Starter Photo

The promised views were shrouded in fog, but the rains held off for the 14 runners who participated in the Galbraith Mountain Tour.  Fueled by donuts provided by Daniel's mom the "slow" group was only 45min behind the fasties.  Daniel's Event Report will be posted soon.

Galbraith Mountain Modern Art Tour

Hey Daniel,

Here's a brief overview of my day:

  • only have 1 car, so day started with bumming a ride.  Despite last minute chaos, picked up Carolyn and made it to Reagan's place almost exactly at 7:00
  • fun drive full of excitement about the approaching adventure.  (Ever notice how it's way more fun to car-pool to a run than go solo?)
  • painless border crossing.  Made it to the start with a good 30 minutes to spare
  • welcomed by your Mom, who had 2 boxes of decadent, fresh donuts:  breakfast of champions!
  • relatively warm, so trails were misty and mysterious.
  • Thank goodness this was a group run and that you and your pals were there around to guide us Canuks... there are so many interesting yet similar trails a person could run for days around Galbraith Mountain and not take the same route twice!
  • while not a great fan of modern art, I was thoroughly impressed by the sculptures we passed while up in the boonies.  I've participated in about 300 trail runs and never once seen anything like what you shared with us.  The marketer in me recommends you change the name of the run!
  • really enjoyed the get-togehter at the Mexican restaurant.  I was inspired to make pico de gallo as soon as I got home
  • got some last minute Christmas shopping in and made it back to Vancouver's north shore mountains by 8:00

Many thanks for the awesome hospitality and a fine adventure.  I especially enjoyed catching up with you.  ('miss 'ya, brotha.)  Good luck with your business idea.

Please pass along the thanks to your Mom and your friends who insured that none of the visiting Fat Asses got lost in the woods.

Merry Christmas!  Can't wait to see your New Years running resolutions, as I hope to run with you again, soon.

PS  For Vancouverites who plan to participate in future Galbraith Mountain Tours:

  • budget 90 minutes to get from downtown Vancouver to the far side of the border.
  • another 30 minutes to get to the start
  • a bit of time to sign in, eat donuts and warm-up
  • Nexxus cards make a difference.  We left downtown Vancouver at 7:00.  Tim and Maureen left from roughly the same place at 8:00.  We arrived within minutes of each other.
  • don't forget your passport
  • never a bad idea to get travel insurance

thanks Dan ...

Thanks very much Dan for another awesome run on Galbraith, my second one, and for keeping this one alive and being an excellent host for us northerners. As always I really like the runnable trail and the gentle terrain. Lots of variety to keep us challenged and focused. The trees grew up a lot since the first run in '06 and the trail was a bit different, not much though. The view of the clouds was certainly different and I only felt a little bit threatened by all the gunfire from the shooting range: any closer and we would've had to duck! Many thanks again to our slow-group leaders that could've easily left us high and lost ... I think they were quite prepared to let me wander off on my own in fact. Of course they were patient and kept  me well on track along with the others. A great day with some good running friends!

Thanks Craig, There wouldn't

Thanks Craig, There wouldn't be a run with out all of you. I always love showing off what I think are some of the best trails in the northwest. I was up today working on a reroute on part of a trail we ran yesterday, so we were officially the last people to run that section of trail. Next year I may move the run to Stewart mtn to give a little taste of my future 100 mile course.
