2006 - Year 2 - Full Monty

Full Monty 2005So we all got home safely, just!.

Ludo, Don and I did the Full monty, and had a

blast seeing all the 1/2 Monty guys and gal coming back at us. Ludo made the turn before the start of the 1/2 Don and I saw them before the first big climb.

It was nice to see four Mainlanders made the trip. A couple of runners from Sooke, (Vince and Heather), gave us a bit of a scare doing a customFull Monty 2006 - Starter Photo version and finished as walking wounded, in 7 hours!
After coming off Joclyn hill they got a little turned around and ended back at Caleb Pike, by which time Norma and her mother had already packed up and gone home. so they had a hot hard slog to do with little to no fuel left.

Photo right: Start of the Full Monty - Ludo, Carlos and Donald

Ludo was first of the Full Monty trio in a time of 5:35.  Chris Tomkinson was first in the 1/2 in a time of 2:31. Tod, Roger, and James, had good runs finishing Between 2:37 and 2:45. Jackie Eddy from Sooke had a great run, she was flying. She had to be at a wedding....My buddyFull Monty 2006 Geoff had a touch of the colly wobbles but was looking forward to completing his two day triple, Baldwin too but Baldwin had other issues to contend with....

Photo left: Carlos, Baldwin and Donald at the fueling station.

I will have picture soon and a full set of tabulated results soon, with a few bonus points, for sweep(Baldwin) and trash colection (another Ball cap, and event host) for yours truely.

Dho! Missed a Good One and Baldwin Scoops Me

Hey Carlos,

Believe me, I'd have loved to join Geoff and Baldwin to round-out the mainlander contingent, but I had to close down the pub after the Forbidden Forest run on Friday night.  Gotta catch Baldwin for Club points so see you for the Juan de Fuca run!

Great time at the 1/2 Monty from what I remember...

Thanks Carlos for an awesome run with spectacular views. I'd love to run this course with fresher legs and an absence of those "issues" we talked about, but you adapt and overcome whatever life brings you.

The aid station was extremely welcomed, the plums, cherries and grapes certainly saved me, when I ran out of water heading towards Joceyln Hill. I definitely needed my sunglasses and visor, oh well.

I had no idea I was the "sweeper", I went off the trail and somehow wound up in the trees, crunching my way through dry leaves and branches. I didn't remember doing that the first time around and eventually backtracked my way to true trail - the two lines on the outcropping confirming the way home, along with the foursome who was picnicing and whom I didn't hear or see even though I was only 15 feet away from them.

The terrain was moderately technical with nice rolling sections, but I just couldn't doing anything with it, I'd take 10 steps and I'd have to stop cause the pain was just so intense. I briefly considering dropping my shorts and run "barebuns" style, but the sharp and pointy rocks and branches convinced me otherwise.

Thanks again, I won't be there for Juan de Fuca, I'll be watching the Man burn in the desert.

Thanks Baldwin for being

Thanks Baldwin for being there with us,once we saw our lost sheep we all could relax and enjoy the day.
Baldwin you are one tough hombre!

JDF trail notes...

I am quite willing to be the DD.(designated driver), and the aide station guy and the overnight accomodation guy (Bring a tent for Friday night if you wish ). For this the first "Mainlanders" assault of the trail.
This would mean that you would only have to bring youselves to the Ferry on Friday.
I would pick you up, put you up, take you to Port Renfrew,(early) wait for you at one of the beaches with suplies and be at the finish, @ China Beach ready to run you back to the ferry.
Mind you if we could get (or bribe) a drive.......
I would love to be part of this epic quest!
What's the Deasert story?
I think I heard something about that.....

What didja hear or didja see the pictures?

The Desert story?

For the last two months, I've been racking up the miles and races: KK, WR50, Fluffy Bunny, FFR, 1/2 Monty, Cap Night Run at great physical and emotional cost. I just need a break or I'm going to burn out, considering Haney 2 Harrison is over 3 months away.

Of course, my idea of a vacation is going out to the desert in Nevada, specifically Gerlach, NV. From there me and 50,000 other like minded individuals will undergo an experiment in community and survival, exposing ourselves to gale force sand storms, 50 degree C heat, and the possible ingestion of mind altering substances, both natural and artifical.

Yep, I'm going to Burning Man, Hope and Fear: The Future. But I'll still be getting a run in, on alkali hardpan, I could imagine it'd be like Marathon Des Sables, although that would take a helluva of an imagination and multiple ingestions of mind altering substances.
