20 June 2009 Starter Photo - 12 Starters, 12 Finishers
Report: It was a perfect day for a run in the mountains. The temperatures hovered in the upper teens, the sun peaked out a few times and the rains held off. The only disappointment from Krys, John and I's, perspective was the lack of view from the top of Dilly Dally and Mt Beautiful. I'm sure it's gorgeous, but alas, all we saw was fog! What did not disappoint was the extensive and tough climb to the top-all of us underestimated it-and the running joke was "I think this is the top" only to discover that we had to keep going up more! Lots of snow still remains up there, and we spent about 15-20 minutes looking for the last section before the top as it was hard to see in the fog and the trail was buried. Very bushy and steep trail at times, but deep down we were all glad for it due to our upcoming 125km Canadian Death Race on the august long weekend. Unfortunatly Bill sprained his ankle last weekend and couldn't join us today. I'm sure he would have loved the punishment as well, considering he's in the Death Race too :)
Lindsay Lake area and the downhill on Halvor Lunden back to Buntzen were a highlight. I think it's a new favourite trail of mine, and the reverse of today isn't so bad either, having done it last October. Going to the Lakes and back it a nice loop as the uphill is steady, but not a grind, the lake area is gorgeous and runnable to keep momentum, and the downhill is fun and flowy!! Lakeview trail at Buntzen Lake is my other favourite. Also very flowy and beautiful foliage.
Anyhow, I was happy to have such experienced and familar Club Fat Assers for my first time as an event host. And even a Jackson family member from Toronto! Thanks everyone! We decided against the full 35km today due to lack of time, along with the lack of desire a few days previous :) Perhaps I'll tackle the full Fluffy Bunny next year, but I'll make sure there are clearer skies! I'm not going up there again on a cloudy day ;)

Extreme Punisher
Hi Guys,
Sorry I wasn't able to be there. I had a delay that would have made me about half an hour late getting there. Made the wrong decision not to show up anyway. Is there a procedure that you guys have that would let you know at the last minute if we will be late or unable to make it. Looks like I missed out on a fun run, instead of the Grouse Grind that I ended up doing for my workout yesterday.

Thanks for such a nice event! the weather was perfect. The views wonderful. Challenging course, but fun and entertaining. Thanks for the tim bits... next time, we should find a way to leave them out next time for after the run :) kidding (but maybe a thought)... Thanks for the goodies and the prizes. Fantastic day for a run, Jess. Many thanks for the coffee and timbits at the start. I hope you had as much fun as Alice, Erik and me.
As we waited on the beach for the Chief Executive Fat Ass, we were witness to a baptism ceremony by a Spanish-speaking church group. It was very interesting. I kept looking up at the sky and thinking, "Jess is up there running somewhere still...!"

I finished my run in 2:06 for 15 km with a stop to bend over and pick- up some trash.Which I must say there wasn't very much of ,except for tissue paper . I draw the line on tissue paper. I did see Craig towards the end of my run .Sibylle do you get minus points for trying to trip people as they run by? Craig tried to trip me as I ran by him. I think he's scared that I'am going to over take him in the lead for the points race. Which he should be . Belated happy birthday Craig

Hi Jess
Thanks for putting on the run today. After threatening Geoff every year that I would attend his event it finally happened. So where was he? Not on the trails with us that's for sure. But I'm sure he was there in spirit.
When we started out today I relied on someone else (Sibylle) to provide me a starting time. As we know, relying on others only works when you're down and out or begging for a ride. For our time tracking we should always have our own clocks at the ready. When I finished up I looked at my hidden timepiece and it said I had been out for 2:33. I'm know I'm not fast but that seemed a bit too slowpokish even for me on an 11km basically flat route. But I wrote it down anyway. Then I got in my car and realized that someone (Sibylle) was one hour early for her start. So please change my time to 1:33 plus garbage. Now that's more like my gentle pace.
And you know, along the way today, I felt a presence on the trail. Then I saw a familiar stature and gait coming toward me. And I had heard early on that one of our participants had begun much earlier in the day. As I stared this runner down I could feel the air of competition luring me on. It nearly erupted in an all out skirmish but cooler heads prevailed and your two points leaders (excluding the chiefest fat asses) realized friendly competition is what CFA is all about. And as long as we keep our garbage bags full on the runs we stand the best chance of ending atop the leader board. Des was looking in fine form by the way as he finished off his remaining 20 minutes of what I'm sure was a tough but satisfying run.
Finally, I have to make it well known that you, Jess, are my favourite event host. Coffee and treats before the run, along with prizes galore and smiles to boot made today's run incredibly pleasurable. Of course, it could also have something to do with me taking the easy way out and only doing the Extreme Punisher route and avoiding what Ean calls "the hardest trail run" he's ever done (The Fluffy Bunny), no kidding.
I'll be back next year for sure, Craig

Hahaha, what time did I give you. I was wondering when I saw your 2:33...
Linda Leigh and Johanna did the 11k walk in 2:20. Claudia and I finished the 15 in 3:33, which is 30min faster than 3 years ago when I ran with Cheryl and Rhonda...but honestly, I think Cheryl had taken us on a wrong course. Today we saw all 10 vistas...but I will write later about my run, it's time for a blog post. Oh, Claudia and I picked one view point clean off garbage (there wasn't much, but we picked up even the smallest pieces).
