Ok, butter tarts, banana bread and those energy bars I make are in the car for post-run noshing tomorrow! (Assuming I don't eat them all on the ferry tonight.)
They are now calling for... SUNSHINE! tomorrow. Cross your fingers! Safe travels everyone.

Just saw Jason, Craig, Heather and Ran off from the Yellow Beacon. They'll swing by the church to meet the car poolers. Sorry I won't make it - ankle is not in running shape First time that I miss this run, one of my favorite routes for runability and surroundings.

Just a head's up for anyone heading out to Horseshoe Bay from downtown, the west side, or Richmond. Because of the Vancouver-Whistler bike race I understand the Lion's Gate Bridge will be closed to all northbound traffic from 6am to 8am Saturday. I believe that Hwy 1/99 will unaffected other than losing a lane during the 4,000-person race, which doesn't start until 7am anyways.

Thanks for this info, Mike. Here is what I found to shed some light on it as the Grand Fondo website does not provide details of road closures: http://www.whistler.com/resources/pdf/GFW2010_Vancouver_Factsheet_FINAL25092010.pdf There will be a dedicated lane for the riders north bound. Similarily, up Taylor Way and on the Highway there will be lane closures in effect. As Mike pointed out, the Grand Fondo starts downtown at 7:00, at which time all SIS participants should be at the ferry terminal.
It looks like we have a great turnout planned for Sunshine in September! Can't wait to see every at the race start.
A couple of final details. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions...
- Course description has been updated. I still suck at writing course descriptions, but I think we are getting there. We've streamlined the directions to follow a few ofthe major trails. Please make sure your course description is the one posted on September 6th!
- It's good to see so many emails about carpooling. I'll leave it to you to make these arrangements.
- For anyone driving onto the ferry, when you get off the ferry you'll exit the terminal in the RIGHT lane, following the parking sign. I believe you go right out to the traffic lights, take the right onto Port Mellon Rd., and then the right back down the road to the parking lot. Plan on approx. $6 for meter parking (credit cards usually accepted as well).
- Dave and I (and any of the Sunshine Coast Athletics runners) will meet you at the Langdale ferry terminal. We will be parked in the Ferry Parking Lot. Follow the pedestrian traffic past the bus stop if you want to leave any belongings in the car. I'll park as close to the start (waiting room) as possibly, but expect about 5min each way to walk to the vehicles.
- This course is easily customiziable! It is a simple out and back. I will likely run between 13-16k to get back to the vehicles in time for the runners coming in.
- Don't forget your travel mugs! Wheatberries cafe is on site and makes a mean americano (oh, Jason - that's an espresso topped up to coffee strength with hot water).
Cross your fingers for Sunshine! There is still rain in the forecast, but the probability is decreasing.
That's all that comes to mind. See you all in a few days! Jackie
Just to get the discussion going...anybody interested in carpooling to the ferry. We can meet at St. David church as in the past, or folks from across town could even meet further away. At the very least, we'll save on parking at the ferry terminal.
Lets meet there at 6:30. This will be a brief stop to pick up and/or distribute folks in available cars. If interested in car pooling please be there in time.
Looks like Jason will have 2-3 more spots available - assuming the rental is a 5 seater ;-)

I hope it seats 5, but it might be a SNUG 5 because I'm sure I went for a compact car (I assumed it was just me to get back and forth from Seattle). However, I promise I will only stink on the way back from SIS, in case it's CoZy.

If still looking for car pooling options, then I would be interested on sharing my car (or someone else's) to get to Sunshine Coast. Let me know. Cheers, Claudia

Hi Helen,
Sorry about the late reply,
I could ride with you, but I need to make sure I can be back in Vancouver in the 12:35 ferry to Horshoebay, which event are you running? Are you planning to stay later and return on the 2:45 p.m ferry?
If you are planning to stay over, then I have to either bring my car or look for other ride back :(

Yeah yeah, running, but more importantly... What's on the menu??

Carpooling?
Just to get the discussion going...anybody interested in carpooling to the ferry. We can meet at St. David church as in the past, or folks from across town could even meet further away. At the very least, we'll save on parking at the ferry terminal.
Also, I'll have a rental car...
If it's any help to us, Sibylle. I would be happy to drive if it makes it easier for us.
You are on, Jason
Great, Jason. That way, Jackson can have the car around the Beacon if he needs it. I suggest that we load the car to save on ferry parking. Also suggest to anybody interested in car pooling that we meet at the church at the Taylor way on ramp to Highway 1 http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=1525+Taylor+Way,+West+Vancouver&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=1525+Taylor+Way,+West+Vancouver,+BC&gl=ca&ei=RFKGTNvKBIu2sAPEz7z2Bw&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CBYQ8gEwAA
I I believe the entrance to the parking lot is off Westcot Rd (accessible from the onramp going west).
Lets meet there at 6:30. This will be a brief stop to pick up and/or distribute folks in available cars. If interested in car pooling please be there in time.
