The Spring version of Mountain Highway Madness is always a surprise. Some years it's been warm and sunny with not a trace of snow. Other years there has been snow from top to bottom. It's often rainy. Most years, there's been at least some snow near the turnaround at the quarry.
Heads-up: This year will be a snow year... possibly a rain year or sun year, too!
I have not been able to pre-run the course to see how far down the snow line goes. I have a bit of a bum knee, so doubt I will be able to check. From fairly recent reports, however, I suspect the snow line is down near the VanTan Club. (If you are not familiar with the Van Tan Club, it's a nudist colony. The entrance is at the 3rd switchback about 1.5 kilometers from the start.)
Snow or no snow, the run is definitely on.
You are most welcome to bring your snowshoes and/or yaktrax. Not sure if the snow will be mushy or frozen, so best to check the weather on Saturday and gear-up accordingly. A free beer for all who attempt it with me, so bring a thirst.
