Route change

As most of you know the snow has been lingering much longer than usual in the backcountry this year. The Hanes valley route is tough in a good year. I have received a report from the ranger at Lynn Headwaters a few days ago. What he has told me is that conditions in the Hanes Valley as of last weekend are similar to late June in a normal year . This means it can be and is most probably dangerous. Snow level is half way down the scree slope with many sun cups . Crown pass is snow free but soon after the snow begins around the west facing boulder field ( this I feel could be the leg breaking area),snow is clear at the chained area but begins at the top again .A few weeks ago 2 hikers who tried to hike the Hanes and realized that they couldn't make it up the scree slope turned around and could not get back over Lynn creek. NSSR had to be called to get them out. So there you have it. I'm not going to recommend anyone try this as a Club event this Saturday. There are other options we can do on Saturday .

 1) An out and back to Lynn Lake about 22 kms or so up Lynn Creek

 2) an out and back to Norvan Falls about  12 kms or so

 3) a variation of Norvan Falls with a dash up Lynn Peak 18 kms or so

 4) or any other option that you can think of . It is a Club Fatass event after all

It's looks like its going to a day with great weather , so please sign up for one of the options. As always there is a cold beer waiting at The Mosquito Creek Bar and Grill
