Washington Run-about

Finally back at the computer and the forgotten cable for my camera.

Photos from my run in the Alpine Lakes area above Leavenworth WA are at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/34231648@N00/sets/72157625027046425/show/ This is an area I definitely want to get back to and explore some more. Unfortunately this trip was limited to one night as Oktoberfest started the 2nd day I was there and no accommodation was to be had for miles.  Just as well, according to the friendly park ranger that recommended the route up to Colchuck Lake I took, as the town’s “guests” get very drunk and wild. Maybe a sunny September. Post-run beer and brat were great!

Photos from my visit to the Peshastin Pinnacles – Wenatchee WA are at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/34231648@N00/sets/72157625152101528/show/  This tiny Washington State Park is only 34 acres but you can still get a lung burning run in here on short switchback trails.

I also got a run in on the Trans-Canada Trail outside of Nelson and took a few pics there, too. I’ve hit the limit on my flickr uploads for now so haven’t uploaded any of these yet.

Nice!

Breathtaking photos.  What really got me was the $4.25 pints of Kokanee.  It's an import in Washington and that's cheaper than in BC!

Cheap beer

It was the happy hour prices the day before that made for a somewhat delayed start to the Alpine Lakes run in the morning. As tempting as $2.25 for a pint of Kokanee might be, I "splurged" on a few Mirror Pond Pale Ales at $3.25. Definitely a deal when the buck is almost at par ...and a Happy "Hour" that goes from 5PM to 9PM!!

The plan prior to the delayed start was to get all the way up and through that pass between the peaks shown in photo DSC00695. Beyond that, there are a number of small lakes and even more impressive peaks.

I made it to the bottom of this slope on the lake shore before turning around. You could hear people calling each other up above as well as rocks tumbling down. Maybe a climbing helmut would be useful

Map of area: http://tinyurl.com/28hxyzr  Colchuck Lake is to the left of screen, you may need to pan to see it depending on your screen resolution. Next time: to Leprechaun Lake or Lake Viviane.
