I am hoping for some advice from all those "smarties" ( not the candy) out there about training for a hot weather event....while we are in this deep freeze. I am training as hard as I can in this snow , so I can get the time in......it is a 45 km event....6000ft climbing trail run.....WHAT THE AUSSIE'S CALL A ULTRA !!!
The problem being is we will start at about 18 C and end around 23 - 29 C. I asked about the shade...my sister laffed at me !! Apparently gum trees do not provide shade. The snakes will be woken up and as we get an early start ( over 50 yrs old....YAH ! ) we will be the first through so are warned to wear gators.....ha ha I say. Anyway, this will be my 4th ultra but my sister's first and she is starting to worry me about the heat. I know there is lots of you very experienced ultra performers out there and hope to gain from your experiences.
Thanks.....Janice

Hot Yoga?
Last year I went through a period of IT Band problems caused mostly by tight glutes and hips. I started going to Bikrams to help lossen things up and it worked like a charm.
Besides the loosening effect, it felt like I was getting a pretty good cardio workout.
I've been wondering if Bikrams is also an effective way of getting the body used to working out in the heat.....
Thoughts?
Bikrams
janice I actually thought of that , as it is just outside of my gym in Coquitlam. I tried the steam room on Monday after a workout and then a treadmill yesterday ( Tuesday ). I HATE treadmills tho....I just want to be out in the fresh air. I would prefer to "DO" something while sweating..so maybe the yogi is the trick. Thanks for the suggestion.:)
Club Fat Yoga Ass
That's the studio that I go to. I'm so happy they got rid of the carpets.
Maybe we should put on a Bikrams Gerbil event. I've often thought about doing two classes in a row. Still haven't decided if that's a good training technique.... or a really stupid one!
