Sunshine in September Recon Run - Event Report

Who could not want to run on such a perfect day? 11 of us started out from Langdale Ferry Terminal this morning to run the Sunshine in September course and attempt to finetune the course description. With three of us from Vancouver and the other 8 from Sunshine Coast Athletics, we had a good group out to run and all of the Sunshine Coast runners were able to run customized distances. Some lucky folk even ran home.

Club Fat Ass Event: trail running on the Sunshine CoastThanks to Teresa for arranging for a bag drop at the house of friends. Unfortunately, we missed the road. So thanks to Wendy for waking up another friend and arranging for us to drop our bags in his boat. Thanks to Friend too for being so understanding! And if anyone knows a face-painter on the sunshine coast, Friend is in need of someone for the Canada Day festivities...

After breaking up into two groups (fast and.... less fast), we set off. Teresa, Roger, Dave and Mark headed off straightaway, the rest of us hiked our way over to drop the bags. Although I've only received confirmation that Teresa made it back, here are the details currently available regarding who ran what:

Liz, Wendy and Litze: approx 1:15??? Turned back somewhere between the canyon and Lower Flume

Roger and Dave: Turned back at Sprockids Park (good luck with your race tomorrow Roger!!)

Mark: Ran home. We assume he made it.

Club Fat Ass trail running eventTeresa and Tammy: turned back at "the campsite". Time approx 2:20.

Wendy M, Sibylle and Jackie: made it to the lookout and back. Approx 17k, 4:20'ish.

After making it back to Wheatberries, the Vancouver gang had time for coffee and treats before hopping on the ferry back to Vancouver. And i got my first nasty running blisters. Not sure whether to be proud or disgusted. I'll post a yucky photo of my feet (who gets blisters n the tips of their toes?!?) on Flickr, although I know you've all seen/had worse.

Hope to see you out to the official Sunshine in September on the Labour Day weekend. Thank you all for coming out!

Thanks for such a great day,

Thanks for such a great day, Jackie.  I love the trails and the new trail stretch replacing the highway bit is utterly gorgeous!

Thanks, Jackie, for

Thanks, Jackie, for organizing the event and for the post-run treats.  I love those trails and am keen on exploring them further on another day.

Glad you enjoyed it!

I warned Dave we have to try out the revised directions when we are at the cabin this summer. May have to try and convince you to join us then. Great to meet you!
