Don't forget to put the Chuckanut Calf Cramper on your run calendar for Saturday, May 28th!

This year's course will feature more runnable terrain than last year's ridiculously steep course! We'll hope for great weather and awesome views of Bellingham Bay, but take whatever comes our way! I'll have updated course details listed by the end of April, so start getting your carpools together!

whoo-hoo!! yeah!!! welcome to the dark side :)

after the Vancouver marathon you'll definitely be ready for the fabulous interlude of Chuckanut Calf-Cramper-dom :)

Tori - let's get in touch closer to the day with further planning!

Chuckanut here I come!

Hi there Teagirl! So - the Vancouver Marathon is behind me (3-minute PB!) and I'm ready for trails. What's the plan?

whoo-hoo!!!

Yay! Yay! Yay! so far it's you, me, and possibly my pal Lysanne although she is NOTORIOUS for ducking out at the last minute! Yes, Lysanne, that was a dig aimed at you :)

also - congrats on the PB @ YVR marathon!!

So, the awesome, awesome plan involves leaving Victoria (really, Sidney) at noon on Friday May 27th on the Sidney to Anacortes ferry. It's 3h but they serve local beer on tap on the ferry (I know!!! BC Ferries could learn some good lessons from Washington State ferries, man oh man). You have to bring your passport but it's seriously the bestest, easiest border crossing ever.

From the ferry terminal in Anacortes, we hop in a cab or city bus or we walk (it's kinda far, I walked last year and was a bit sorry I had done it) into Anacortes to the most excellent brewpub in that town. We await the fantastic Genissa who will eventually appear to whisk us away to a cabin in the woods (sort of. with much larger comfier room sizes & an awesome lake-view) where we will bed down on floors / couches / etc (along with 2 BIG dogs - they are very friendly, but just so you're an informed consumer) until the next day when we'll drive into the forest, meet up with whoever else is coming, and run!

After the run there will be some form of beverage at the finish line. Just a wild guess, on my part...

We stay over Saturday night as well, because our ferry leaves Anacortes at 8a Sunday morning, dropping us back off in Sidney at 11am.

IF you'd rather not (or work commitments are such that you can't) make a (long) weekend of it, there are probably people heading down from Vancouver you could carpool with if you went over there instead. But I bet my way is funner :)

Also - beer drinking is not REQUIRED for this event!! Fun is still going to happen no matter what. It just happens to be particularly excellent if you're a beer fan :)

Chuckanut here I come (uh - from Vancouver)

Sooooo - I just looked at my calendar and I am making a presentation to a meeting in Vancouver Friday May 27 - so it looks like I'll only be joining the cool kids from Victoria on the way back on Sunday. Now I need a ride with someone from Vancouver to Chuckanut - anyone? Anyone?

a group from Victoria?

So, Genissa.... *if* a group of crazy folk from the Victoria area decided to come over on the ferry from Sidney to Anacortes on Friday night, would there be a chance of (a) getting picked up there and / or (b) having a floor / couch (/ bed!?) to sleep on for the night, and then a ride back to Anacortes on Sunday morning?? OR if we decided to carpool onto the ferry, we wouldn't need option (a) but would there be a chance of option (b)? Alternatively: are there any hostels in Anacortes / Bellingham you would recommend, or recommend *against*!

For any Victoria-area folk thinking about doing this: the ferry ride is 3 hours but it's really quite lovely (and Washington State Ferries have local beer, on tap, on the ferry!!!). As a foot passenger it's super-easy, a tiny bit more complicated with a car but still pretty great. To be there in time for a Saturday run we do have to head over on Friday afternoon & back on Sunday morning, so it's a whole weekend... but a really really nice one!

Carpool from Victoria

Hi Katie and Victoria runners! There is a chance I could pick you up at the ferry. But I probably will work until 7pm on Friday night, and again at 11am on Sunday. Still, we could probably work it out! I think there will be room to crash on the floor as well! Will be in touch later in April/early May and we can plan more then!

Take care, Genissa

Hey - I might want to be part

Hey - I might want to be part of that crazy Victoria group .... :) it would be my first FatAss but after training and running the Vancouver marathon May 1 I will be ready to make the switch to trail running 4EVAH!
