This is a project that I’ve been thinking about for a while, and that I decided to put together yesterday as I slopped through the mud of the Juan de Fuca Trail.
In the interests of brevity, I’ll limit the list to trail runs of ultra distance or trails that otherwise feel like ultras due to their elevation change (hello, Howe Sound Crest Trail!).

* Entirely honour system, but recommended criteria and definitions of ultra races (no counting training runs, private runs, flash events, non-race adventure runs, treadmill runs, imaginary runs, splitting a 100 miler into two ultras, pacing duties, almost-there DNFs, long bike rides, watching movies about ultras, etc.) can be found at: http://www.marathonmaniacs.com/faq_criteria.html

Bruce Grant - 20 100-milers
Hi David,
I believe that, as of last weekend, Bruce Grant has completed 20 100-milers.
Also, I have yet to complete 50 ultras -- I'm at 40 as of today.
Cheers
Bill
Men's and over all 100k course record : V100
I have declared Ryan Conroy the new Vancouver 100 course record holder since he completed 100km in 14:54:40 and the previous record by Randy Hunter was for 96km in 14:48:00. Both Randy and Ryan chewed up their courses on event day and each performed a fantastic run. It was a priviledge seeing them both do it.
New Vancouver 100 record
Carolyn Goluza has set a new bar for fastest woman on a double crossing of the BP Trail : 17:00:00 hours on a day of perfect weather and modest snow conditions for Hollyburn and Black Mountains. In Carolyn's words, "Just wanted to thank you for an incredible event with an amazing group of people--that was a truly surreal experience!!". June 5/6, 2010.
high rim trail
I ran the high rim trail on November 7, 2009 in 6hr 12 min. Not sure if it is the first or the fastest... I tried to run it a few times before but it was blocked by hundreds of downed trees for a couple of years. It is in great shape now.
you own it
until some other claimant comes along. The whole Kalamalka area is amazing for running.
1st Double BP
Mike Wardas
and ...
and Randy Hunter.

Fantastic Idea!
Way to go, David. This list of epic deeds is long overdue. Makes me think this could be a trail runner's Guiness Book of World Records, only for ultrarunning in BC!
Folks like Al Howie, Kevin Thomson and Jesper Olsen have done incredible long runs across BC, but to my knowledge, they ran on roads. I wonder if there are any documented accounts of native folks running a long way on BC trails?
Should add the Chilkoot Trail. Want to give it a go for the speed record in September?
Chilkoot
It looks like it has been done before.
And it looks awesome.
And good on Parks Canada for directly addressing ultra-running.
