North Coast Trail Run

Jeff Hunt and Rob Wall ran the trail in 11 hours. We now have a first day PR. This note was posted on the PIH Chatline bt Jeff. "We made it. It took a little longer than expected - exactly 11 hours. The beaches were totally non-runnable, and we got lost once. Overall difficulty is definitely harder than the JdF, but slightly easier than the WCT. No injuries. All is good. I will post a full report with tonnes of pictures in the next couple of days."

Congrats Jeff and Rob

A first bagger is something to be proud of.  Nobody can take it away from you. My sinceerst congrats to you both.

In my view, you must set an example for those who will follow.  I belive that the first bagger must help those who follow do the same route in less time.  I want to see photos and a blow-by-blow account of how it went for you!

I confess that I am envious of your accomplishment.  I have hiked to Cape Scott and back.  It's been a few years, but my recollection was that the trail was flatter than a pancake and a impossible to get lost on.  The route I did was mostly an out-and-back from a parking lot to the lighthouse and back.  Please share your route and some photos, if you have any.  I recollect that the scenery along the beach was world class.

Funny how it goes, but my most vivid memories were the Norwegian graveyard we stopped to explore en route to the beach, the sun-dews we witnessed eating bugs in the swampy areas and the blue-green glass Japanese fishing float Sibylle found on the beach near Cape Scott.

Hey Carlos, Wow, sounds

Hey Carlos,

Wow, sounds like an adventure.  How long is that trail?  Are you planning to run it this summer?

The new trail

The new trail links with the existing Cape Scott trail, forming a 58-kilometre stretch west from Port Hardy. I am not planning to run it till AFTER the STORMY 100. Soooo many trails so little time!

September is a lovely time of year

Do you think that trail is still runnable say in early September?

Which trail?

The North coast trail is not on my radar for this year. Way too much driving involved to get to Port Hardy from Victoria. Now the JDFT is just an hours drive from my place, that will be totally runnable in early September. We just have to maximize on the daylight hours and check the tide tables.

You're right

September would be pretty perfect for JDFT. When in September are you available, Carlos?

Three possible dates...

Could be the 6th.-13th.or the 27th. of September. On the 20th. there is 56K Ultramarathon, a run around Lake Cowichan, the "Great Lake Walk".So that W/E is out. It would have to be a Saturday as it will be about 12 hours of CFM.(constant forward motion.) and I work Monday morning early.Let me check the tide tables I'll get back to you.
