Back From The Beach

28 July 2007

So we are all done. 5 souls started 5 finished.
Bob Wall, Isao Hirayama,Jeff Hunt,Caroline Goluza ,and I.

Bob, Isao and Jeff took off and , after a little bit of reorientation and re grouping, tookoff again leaving Caroline Isao and I as the caboose. After some beach walking on Bear Beach and some ankle wading on Sombrio , we were all well and working our way to Botanical Beach and the ride back. We had a happy time even though we had to deal with a lot of deepish mud. I have never run it that muddy. The lads,Jeff and Bob ran the whole trail in 7:55 We did it in 9:32. No major injuries, many wonderful views I waded through the Sombria river up to my hips and fried my camera! (time for an upgrade.)

This trail is a real character builder, a "must do", at least once a year. Thanks Isao and Norma for doing all the driving.

See you at the Monty.

Where's the Mud?

You're a mean looking crew... but with clean legs and shiny runners, how do you expect anyone to believe you just finished a gnarly run on the JDF Trail?

Tongue out

That was the start photo

My camera and GPS got fried in the river crossing so I could not really get the "Mud the blood and the beer" at the end.

Ouch, too bad about the

Ouch, too bad about the camera.  We had to upgrade ours as it was getting on in years.  Ean insisted that the water and shook proofed Olympus Stylus Series was the way to go.  I thought the waterproof feature was more of a want that we can easily get around with plastic bags....Alas, I do like the fact that I do not need to worry about rain or river crossings (I crossed Sombrio as well, since I didn't want to go back to the muddy trails again).  We bought ours on EBay.  It's refurbished and comes directly from Olympus.

For $20 at the XS Cargo

store in the Mall, I got a heck of a lot of Mileage out of that baby plus all my Movies!

I will borrow my mother-in-law Mavis's  camera for this w/e.
