Peak Centre Seminar Series

  • Session 1: Heart Rate & Lactate Based Training - Friday January 18th from 7:00pm - 8:30pm
  • Session 2: Strength Training for Endurance Athletes - Saturday January 19th at 3:00pm - 4:30pm.

1) Heart Rate & Lactate Based Training - Add Precision to your Training

Presenter: Ed McNeely, MSc. Exercise Physiology

When: Friday, January 18th at 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Where: Peak Centre for Human Performance - Suite 101, 4181 East Hastings Street, Burnaby

Cost: Free

Tired of putting in the training hours, but not really improving? Interested in taking the guesswork out of your training? Have you ever wondered what exactly to do with your heart rate monitor? This session is designed to answer all of your questions about using heart rate training zones to add precision to your training. This seminar will explain the physiology that heart rate training zones are based on, how to get your individual training zones measured and discuss how to use them to determine which of your thresholds is limiting your improvement. By focusing your training on your limiting thresholds, you will eliminate the junk miles and focus your training hours so they lead directly to performance improvements at your particular sport and race distance. Topics discussed will include blood lactate, lactic acid, muscle fibre types, aerobic threshold, lactate threshold, V02 max, heart rate training zones and most importantly, how to use the information in your training.

2) Strength Training for Endurance Athletes

Presenter: Ed McNeely, MSc. Exercise Physiology

When: Saturday, January 19th from 3:00-4:30 pm

Where: Peak Centre for Human Performance - Suite 101, 4181 East Hastings Street, Burnaby

Cost: Free

We all know that as endurance athletes we should be incorporating strength training into our training routines, but they always seem to be the first sessions to be squeezed out when time gets tight. In this session, we'll explore why strength is often a limiting factor in performance for endurance athletes and cover the specific strength requirements of endurance sport. We'll also cover the relationship between strength and Peak Power and how to convert strength into sport specific power and speed. We'll discuss the physiology of strength training for sport and answer any questions you may have about integrating strength training into your program.

RSVP: We have limited seating so if you are interested in one or both of our seminars, please give us a call at 604-299-7959 or send us an email at info at peakcentrevancouver.ca (replace the "at" with "@" to send us an email) to reserve a spot.
