What: The Peak Centre is offering to do blood lactate & VO2max assessments for club members where 20% of the proceeds go to CFA.

When: Saturday November 17th between 9am-5pm (60min slots) We realize the "Go Home" event is hosted by CFA member Des on this day. If you are planning to run Go Home, reserve an afternoon timeslot for your assessment.

Where: at the Peak Centre - Suite 101 - 4181 East Hastings Street, Burnaby

To Reserve an Assessment slot: Contact Mike McIvor at 604-299-7959 or at mike@peakcentrevancouver.ca

What does an Assessment Tell Me? An assessment is a snapshot of your current fitness. Our sport scientists use them to identify 3 thresholds that determine how you perform at various running distances. By identifying your thresholds and how they relate to each other, we are able to determine what is currently holding you back from improving. That way you can focus your training on the intensities that are going to lead directly to performance improvements and eliminate the junk miles at intensities that are not appropriate for you and your goals.

The assessment appointment is about 60 minutes. The test itself takes 20-25 minutes but with an explanation, warm-up and cool-down it stretches to about an hour. If you choose the VO2max option, through the test we’ll have you breathing through a snorkel-like thing to measure your VO2 and the mix of carbs/fats that you’re burning in each stage. After we have had a couple of days to analyze the results and put together your reports we’ll have you back in and go over the your results and the science of training: muscle fibres, lactate, thresholds (aerobic, lactate and VO2 max) and training zones are more importantly how to use the information to reach your training and racing goals.

See below for the highlights of the different levels of assessment available. I’ve also attached a brochure for the assessment process that describes the process in a little more detail.

Our two most common assessment packages are:

Lactate, VO2 Max + Energy Usage Analysis:

  • Identifies your precise aerobic training zones
  • Speed/pace zones defined
  • Heart rate zones defined
  • Carbohydrate & fat utilization at each training zone
  • VO2max
  • Metabolic efficiency
  • Consultation with one of our exercise physiologists to explain the science of training, what the results mean and how you can use them to improve your training

COST: $185 + GST

This is the evaluation that we recommend to clients being tested for the first time with PEAK Centre. It provides a complete analysis of your current trained state.

Lactate Analysis to Max:

  • Identifies your precise aerobic training zones
  • Speed/pace zones defined
  • Heart rate zones defined
  • Consultation with one of our exercise physiologists to explain the science of training, what the results mean and how you can use them to improve your training

COST: $135 + GST

This is the basic assessment that will identify your training zones. We typically use this assessment as a follow-up assessment to see how your training zones have improved.

About the Peak Centre

The Peak Centre for Human Performance specializes in providing sport science testing & training services to coaches and athletes of all levels. We provide the sport science support needed to measure, interpret and apply individual physiological parameters with the goal of improving performance. Our sport scientists can interpret the testing data to determine the type of training and training intensities that will lead to the greatest performance improvements and then develop a training program for the athlete to achieve their goals through precise training prescription, regular monitoring of improvements and adjustments to training intensities as fitness improves. Our organization originated in Ottawa in the 1980’s and has expanded to facilities across Canada. Our Burnaby facility includes a complete exercise physiology laboratory with state of the art equipment for lactate testing and metabolic analysis. For more information about our services, please see our website at www.peakcentrevancouver.ca.

Don't miss the free seminar on Heart Rate and Lactate Based Training on November 7th. More info on the seminar here.
