TCT Social Club: Kitsilano - Stanley Park - Coal Harbour - Waterfront Station

I finished running the Vancouver sections of the Trans Canada Trail yesterday.

It was a glorious sundrenched day and after my "date" bailed on me, I decided to head out alone.  I drove to Kitsilano, parked the car in Kits Point and started heading north east across Burrard Street Bridge.  No signs for the pedestrian route of the TCT, so I cut down the stairs on the north west end of the bridge towards the seawall, where I encountered the first of a grand total of 3 markers.

Everybody and their cousins was out walking, inline skating and cycling along the waters edge.  The water of English Bay was sparkling in the sunshine and there was not a cloud to be seen in the sky.  I enjoyed weaving through the happy crowd, but faster runners might want to consider doing this stretch on a cloudy weekday.  Things didn't thin out as I headed towards the park...in contrary.  I have never seen this many cyclists on the seawall.  Most of them actually looked like they hadn't cycled in 20 years and just rented a two wheeler on Denman Street on the spur of the moment.

Half of them didn't wear a helmet, the other half wore flip flops or even high heels.  I witnessed two bike crashes and good saves,  one inline skate crash (no save) and countless close calls.  Quite entertaining.

I ran slow, but steady and was happy that my heel didn't bother me too much.  Past the pool at Second Beach, lots of sun tanners at Third Beach,  Siwash Rock and beneath Prospect Point towards the Lions Gate Bridge I made good time.

The north side of the park was in the shade, but it certainly was still warm enough to run in a tank top.  Yeah!  Can it stay like that, please.  After a little pit stop at the water park, I tackled the way home, past the Girl in the Wetsuit, Brockton Oval, the Nine O'Clock Gun and Harry Jerome's statue to Coal Harbour.  Mount Baker was looming majestically in the distance beyond the harbour cranes,  what a beautiful city we live in

My heel was tired for the last stretch along the city side of Coal Harbour and I started to walk to the Waterfront Station and then to Cordova Street to catch Bus #22 to Kitsilano and back to my car. A perfect little urban adventure to celebrate our city, sunshine, health and happiness!
