Because of a torn calf muscle, my resolutions and plans for 2010 were modest. It's time to look back and evaluate how I did:
Goal #1: Vancouver New Years Day Fat Ass 50km.
Achievement: Accomplished 100% - not only did I finish the full 50km, I also improved my time.
Goal #2: Marathon under 4h. I would like to find a spring or fall marathon somewhere less than 1h drive from Vancouver. Will this be the year I crack the 4h mark?
Achievement: 0% - Running the 50km on New Year's Day wrecked havoc with my Achilles Tendon and I opted against training for and running a marathon
Goal # 3: Increase my running pace. Speed workouts 1x a week
Achievement: Ahem, I'll give myself 30% here. When not injured, I did make an honest effort.
Goal # 4: Participating in at least the following other events/races:
- Squamish Scrambler Snowshoe Run (no)
- Capilano Canyon MardiGras Night Run
- Mountain Highway Madness (2laps)
- XTC 50K
- Bill's Great Peak Ascent (out of town)
- Capilano Canyon Midsummer Nite Night Run
- Go Deep or Go Home
- Sunshine in September
- M&M's
- Pure Satisfaction
Achievement: 8/10 = 80%
Goal # 5: One other Ultra run
Achievement: 0% because of injuries
Goal # 6: cross training to avoid injury and keep those rusty joints nimble (bike, weight, skiing, badminton, swimming - all counts)
Achievement: While I recovered from the calf and Achilles injuries earlier in the year, I messed up my ankle in a fall and was out of commission from late summer on. I did manage to bike 2-3 times a week. 80%
Overall, nothing to write home about - 48.3% achievement rate. Let's try this again next year.
