Since I don't actually own any running gaiters (the kind that are light weight, easy to put on and off, repel dirt and dust and are the subject of Lucinda's request for stories, features and tweets), but only winter gaiters for hiking or snowshoeing in deep powder, my story (I do want to qualify for Lucinda's prize winning gaiters after all) deals with my need for gaiters
Yesterday, I ran leg 4 and 5 at the Stormy 50 mile relay. Don't get me wrong, it was a perfect day for running. The heat of the past few weeks had relented, the sky was over cast and a fresh breeze blew through the woods (ok, it was a bit muggy). I had a great time on the trails, keeping Ean and Rick company for most of the time, navigating the beautiful single track of leg 4. huffing and puffing up University Hill and trying not to wipe out on the very dry and slippery downhills. The trails were so dry, not only made it for very technical conditions, it also was super dusty....that's were Lucinda's gaiters would have been so handy. By the time I handed the "baton" to team mate Claudia, my feet and socks were covered in fine dirt. Luckily, I didn't get any blisters, but any longer and I could see those small grains working away on my tender tootsies.
So, if I don't win a pair, I hereby vow to buy one of the first pairs Lucinda makes...BTW, I hear she suggested to make a pair out of Ean's ratty Hawaiian shirt
