New Years Resolutions - Progress Report at the Half-way Point

Where has the time gone? 2006 is now half-over!

This past December I took the unusual step (for me) of writing down my New Years resolutions.  It was to be a competition against myself and a way to keep myself honest.  Some other friends and Club Fat Ass members also took up the challenge of going public with their goals.  So, for the benefit of those who care, here's a summary of my progress relative to where I wanted to be half-way through the year:

- I noted 15 events I'd like to participate in and of those, 5 have occurred by 1 July.  I participated in 4/5 ('missed the North Shore Enduro).  The good news is that I participated in 3 more than I'd planned to (Dirty Duo, Run for the Clouds and the Marathon Shuffle.)   So from the event participation perspective, I'd say I'm on track

I'm way off the program due to some knee problems, however.  There's a big difference between participating and participating at a fairly competitive level.  I wish I wasn't injured!!!

- I've not been able to do Tuesday workouts with the Capilano Eagles anywhere near the 50% level I planned.  At best, I'd say I'm at 15%

- I learned that I have a chlorine allergy, so plans to swim a lot more i the wintr adn spring were dashed.  Since Kitsilano Pool (a local outdoor pool) opened however, I've been swimming 2-3X per week.  Somehow chlorine in an outdoor pool doesn't screw me up?

- I'm stretching and going to the gym at least 2X week, so that's going to plan.  Still can't touch my toes, though!

- I'm riding my bike more.  For a few years there I got lazy and forgot why I liked to commute on my bike.  This past weekend I was spanked on the road bike by some pals who I used to routinely punish.  I plan to ride lots more between now and Christmas and to smoke those same buddies before the monsoons hit

- managed to get in a few fantastic days on the snowshoes, but would have liked do do even more.  I certainly didn't manage to get into the competitive circles I'd hoped to

- only managed 3 days of downhill skiing at Whistler, but got in a good year of shorter days at Grouse.  Also managed to get out on the snowboard a few times.  Bonus!

- have actively helped a few friends with their running and have hosted a few runs.  At mid-year, I'm up there in the Club Fat Ass points ranking, which is one of the benchmarks I was using to measure my progress

- I'm trying to get over my knee problems, but it seems to be getting worse rather than better.  Not sure what to do next?  It's quite discouraging, because at this point, it seems that any running is bad running for me.

 - beer consumption is holding steady and I could still stand to drink more water on a regular basis.

Not bad, but still room for improvement.  'Got to get these knees back in shape.  Back at you in late December!
